Kangana Ranaut addresses her 'soft -porn' remark on Urmila

In a recent turn of events, Kangana Ranaut, the fiery Bollywood actress turned politician, has found herself amidst controversy once again. This time, the spotlight is on her old remarks regarding fellow actress Urmila Matondkar, coupled with a surprising mention of Sunny Leone.

Addressing the issue during an interaction at the Times Now Summit 2024, Kangana Ranaut attempted to clarify her past comments about Urmila Matondkar. The controversy stems from a 2020 interview where Kangana labeled Urmila as a "soft porn star," sparking widespread debate and criticism.

However, Kangana's recent statement seems to present a different perspective. She defended her previous remarks by suggesting that actresses themselves often use terms like "tandoori murgi" and "item girl" to describe their roles without feeling ashamed. Kangana argued that if actresses are comfortable with such labels, then why should they be deemed derogatory?

Interestingly, Kangana went on to mention Sunny Leone, citing her as an example of an actress who has garnered immense respect despite her past association with the adult entertainment industry.

"Tell me, are 'soft porn' or 'porn star' objectionable terms? No! They are not objectionable terms. It is just a word that is not acceptable socially. The amount of respect porn stars get in India – just ask Sunny Leone – nowhere else in the world is that the case", Kangana remarked.

In a 2020 interview with NDTV, Urmila, who entered politics by contesting as a Congress nominee in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and later aligned with Shiv Sena in 2020, criticized Kangana for her remarks against veteran actress Jaya Bachchan. Jaya Bachchan had raised objections to the tarnishing of the entire film fraternity during a speech in Parliament in 2020.
