Kahaani 2 Movie Review: Thriller of the year!

Director: Sujoy Ghosh;Cast: Vidya Balan, Arjun Rampal and Jugal Hansraj.Ratings: *** / 5 (Three and a half star out of five)

The film 'Kahaani 2' is not a sequel but unfolds another Kahaani just like the previous one. Kahaani has set a benchmark in direction, storyline, and all other cinema aspects, let's see if the next installment does justice to the expectation or not.

Plot: Vidya Sinha (Vidya Balan) is a middle class single mother living in Chandan Nagar, a small town in West Bengal and has a paralysed daughter named Minnie ( Naisha Khanna). One fine day, her daughter gets kidnapped and that's where the Kahaani begins! Vidya gets a call from an unknown number just like we watch in typical Bollywood film and she is asked to reach at a specific address sent on her mobile. While heading for the same she gets hit by a car! The whole car-hitting scene is so fantastic that you might skip a heartbeat in shock! Inderjeet Singh played by Arjun Rampal investigates the case and slowly the story throws it's cards in front of you.

Durga Rani Singh another character played by Vidya in the film is a wanted criminal in West Bengal for kidnapping and murder charges against her. Did Durga kidnaps Vidya Sinha's minnie? Well, that's the whole story actually.

The storyline is basic and not as good as expected however the direction of the film just enhance the whole cinematic experience. Sujoy's direction ensures that you will not get bored from the start till the end. For instance you might feel you are watching a horror flick as there are few scenes where scary faces pop up with a perfect background music to suit it.

Most of the scenes are shot in night that enhances the suspense of the film.

Performances:

Vidya Balan:

There is no need to talk about her performance in the film. The actress has done justice to her character be it Vidya Sinha or Durga Rani Singh. Both the characters have their sad past which makes them who they are now. Her past comprises of sexual abuse, a struggle to overcome that, forget it and add life to her existence.

Arjun Rampal:

Plays the character of Inderjeet Singh, an officer transferred to Chandan Nagar police station because of his failure in his previous case. Best suited for the role we can say.

Jugal Hansraj:

Essays the role of 'evil chachu' of Minnie.

Sujoy Ghosh's direction is 'Tareef ke layak'  (appreciable) and the 'less songs' policy add more value to the film. The content or you can say story is fantastic, just don't compare it to the first film or it may disappoint you a bit. The reason is that Kahaani had many major twists and surprise elements in the film than Kahaani 2!

Overall: The movie is totally 'Paisa Vasool' and I personally recommend you to go and watch it on big screen only.

It's an average movie not good not bad. But as compared to Kahaani, it's not good. Kahaani was a good movie. Kahaani 2 is quite slow. Both the leading actors played a good role in the movie, it had good songs like Meherram but over an average rating movie.
