Jaya Bhattacharya Opens Up On Reason For Going Bald

Actor Jaya Bhattacharya made headlines last night when she went on to post a video that showed the journey of her getting bald as she shaved all her hair off at home.

It did come across as a major shock to many and while Bhattacharya's post did speak a lot about everything, she opened up on the same on length in an interview with Bombay Times.

Bhattacharya said, “I had cut my hair short years ago, post my break-up. I was tired of people asking me why I was alone despite being so pretty. The first thing I could think of was to cut my hair. That was my way of retaliation or rebellion. Also, I have never really bothered about my looks, I have never been that vain. I kept that look for a long time. However, actor Ankit Bathla, who I treat like a son, requested me to grow my hair and I conceded to his request.”

When asked what prompted her to go bald this time around, she replied, “I am an animal lover, and I have been taking care of the strays in my area for almost 20 years. Now, given the coronavirus pandemic, safety and hygiene measures are a priority, and I was finding it difficult to manage my long hair. I stay with my father, who is 90, two staff members, who are like family, and four dogs. I step out at least thrice to feed strays and give food to the needy. Since I have to take a bath every time I come back, it was becoming difficult to manage my long hair. One day, I sneezed and didn’t step out for the next two days. I can’t take a chance with my father at home. That’s when I decided to go bald. I asked one of my staff members to just shave my head. I can’t stop doing things that I ought to do and let my looks restrict them. No hair means no stress. Yeh toh ghar ki kheti hai wapas ugg jaayegi. Mere animals ka kaun dhyan rakhega? I have to be there for them. And in case I need my hair desperately, I have two wigs, which can come in handy (laughs!).”
