‘Is She Alive?’, Javed Akhtar Reveals First Thought after Shabana Azmi’s Deadly Accident

Shabana Azmi had met with a deadly car accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway in Maharashtra's Raigad district on January 18 afternoon. She was severely injured and was rushed to the nearby hospital from the accident spot, the MGM hospital in Navi Mumbai. Later, she was shifted to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital.

Her husband and lyricist Javed Akhtar opens up about what was going on in his mind when the accident took place and reveals that he was worried if his wife Shabana Azmi was even alive after the deadly road accident.

Shabana Ji and Akhtar Sahab joined Film Companion’s Anupama Chopra for a chat and the latter described his first thoughts after the accident:

Who could think we would have such a calamity. The accident that Shabana went through was really deadly. We were in the other car, she was sleeping in the car behind us and when this accident occurred and we went back, the first thought was ‘Is she alive?’ Because the whole car was crushed, had become a heap of junk. Somehow we took her out, she was unconscious with blood all over her face and it was only from the nose. There were no wounds but the whole body has taken such a whiplash, that it will take a little time to be totally normal.

On the other hand, Shabana Azmi stated that she has no memory of the accident as she was sleeping and then fainted after the car crash. And when she regained consciousness, she was already in the hospital. The veteran actress expressed her gratitude towards all the warm wishes she received from fans all across the globe.

Currently, the couple is in lockdown together at their Mumbai home. The veteran writer-lyricist recently made his debut on Instagram and his wife Shabana Ji welcomed him on the social media site. "So finally you're on insta! Welcome,” she wrote on her Insta handle. She posted an image of Javed Akhtar which is the profile picture of his page.
