Inside Edge 2

Amazon Prime Video’s one of the most popular series’ Inside Edge has finally come back with the much awaited season 2. With a huge ensemble cast including actors like Vivek Oberoi, Richa Chaddha, Angad Bedi, Amit Sial, Tanuj Virwani, Siddhanth Chaturvedi, Sayani Gupta to name a few, the series was a huge success and some new actors like Amir Bashir Sapna Pabbi and Flora Saini have been added. Revolving around the vicious politics of cricket in India, the series is inspired by the culture of IPL matches and the business that politicians and investors have made out of it.

Here is the first impression of the second season:

Plot:

While Inside Edge season 1 set the premise for how cricket works as a business in the country, who are the people behind it and how does it happen. This time, the game gets dirtier and murkier as the dark secrets of the masterminds slowly get revealed. The last season ended on a cliffhanger about Niranjan Suri’s death and since then Vikrant Dhawan (Vivek Oberoi) is missing. A lot of equations changed and tables have turned for a lot of characters.

Poor and helpless Zarina (Richa Chadda) has now become powerful as the mastermind Bhaisahab (Amir Bashir) has finally come back on the field. Arvind Vashishtha (Angad Bedi) and Vayu Raghavan (Tanuj Virwani) are at loggerheads and leading different teams. Vikrant Dhawan has big and twisted plans which turn out to be the game changer. On the other hand, Prashant Kanaujia (Siddhanth Chaturvedi) is going through hell after the traumatic death of Niranjan Suri.

The second innings seems to be bigger, better and edgier.

Performances:

Vivek Oberoi shines in every frame that he is in and once again proves that playing grey characters is his niche. Richa Chaddha, as compared to the last season has a better screen space and has emerged as a strong performer. Angad Bedi and Vayu Raghavan totally fit their roles. However, some performances that steal the limelight are Aamir Bashir and Siddhanth Chaturvedi. Aamir Bashir has a strong screen presence and proves it in every frame why he is referred to as a versatile actor. Siddhant Chaturvedi is a revelation, though he was good is season 1 and gathered a lot of accolades for his role MC Sher in Gully Boy, his vulnerability, control and emotive side is commendable. Sayani Gupta is brilliant however Sapna Pabbi turned out as a disappointment.

Screenplay & Writing:

The writing is the strong point of the series and the texture of the first season has been maintained in the sequel, in some parts even outlined in a better manner. Usually, people are more critical of the sequels than the first season as the expectations are much higher and hence they get disappointed very easily. However, Inside Edge season 2 seems to be better than the first. Writers have paid attention to the details, of both cricket and politics.

Verdict:

If you liked the first season, you will like the second one better. The series matches the level of your expectations and more and totally justifies the Emmy nomination that it received. Cliche to say, but it is an edge of the seat thriller and should definitely be on your binge watch list this weekend.
