Imtiaz Ali Reveals If Rockstar 2 Is Happening, Talks About His Approach to Sequels

Imtiaz Ali is known for his iconic films like Jab We Met, Rockstar, and Highway. Over the years, fans have eagerly requested sequels to some of his most popular films. While he did attempt a sequel with Love Aaj Kal 2, it didn’t perform well at the box office. In a recent interview, the filmmaker shared his thoughts on making sequels and addressed the possibility of Rockstar 2.

In an interaction with the Game Changers YouTube channel, Imtiaz Ali reflected on why Love Aaj Kal 2 didn’t work as expected. He admitted that he tried to put too many things into the film, making it complex and heavy. This experience has made him cautious about making sequels unless they are truly necessary. However, Ali did not completely rule out the idea of Rockstar 2.

While talking about sequels, Ali also addressed Jab We Met 2. He stated that he currently has no plans for it but added, "Kabhi aesa hota hai ke koi wild thought Rockstar ko leke aa jae." (It might happen that a wild thought about Rockstar comes to my mind.) This leaves the door slightly open for future possibilities.

Ali admitted that he could have approached Love Aaj Kal 2 differently. He felt the film lost its simplicity and became difficult for audiences to connect with. He explained, “The ease of the film was compromised, and it became too thick. People didn’t fully understand it, and it lacked freshness.”

Talking about sequels in general, Ali emphasized that they should only be made for the right reasons. “I had my reason, but I wasn’t able to express it properly. At least, it didn’t come across in the film’s publicity,” he shared. For now, fans will have to wait and see if Rockstar 2 ever becomes a reality.
