Abhishek Bachchan's recent flick, "I Want to Talk," hasn't quite hit the mark at the box office. Despite garnering praise from critics, the movie has faced challenges in drawing crowds, accumulating only Rs 1.68 crore (nett) in total earnings over its first five days in theaters.
The film's lackluster performance can be attributed, at least in part, to the inadequate promotion and marketing efforts. Many were taken by surprise when the movie was released, leading to social media users expressing their shock at its sudden appearance. Additionally, the film's limited release on a few screens nationwide failed to generate the buzz and excitement needed to draw audiences in.
As per industry tracking website Sacnilk, the film's initial day earnings were a mere Rs 25 lakh. Subsequent days showed a slight uptick in collections, but it fell short of boosting the film's overall performance. On day two, the film raked in Rs 55 lakh, totaling Rs 80 lakh. Day three witnessed a modest increase with collections of Rs 53 lakh, resulting in a cumulative total of Rs 1.33 crore. Day four brought in Rs 17 lakh, and on its fifth day in theaters, the film earned Rs 18 lakh, reaching a nett collection of Rs 1.68 crore.
Interestingly, I Want to Talk's box office earnings were lower than The Sabarmati Report, a movie featuring Vikrant Massey, Raashi Khanna, and Ridhi Dogra.
I Want To Talk saw a disappointing 9.38% occupancy rate in the Hindi market throughout the day, with most viewers opting for the night show. In Mumbai, where only 75 shows are screening, the occupancy rate was 12.25%, while in Delhi and NCR, with 140 shows, the rate stood at 7.75%.
Despite its lackluster box office performance, insiders in the industry remain hopeful about the film's success once it hits a streaming platform. The film's limited release and minimal promotion suggest it may have been intended for a digital debut. Consequently, it is anticipated that the film will resonate with audiences and receive a more favorable reception once it becomes available on streaming services.
