'I had a Great Connection with my On-Screen Son Ended Up Saving his name as Ajay Son on my Phone': Keerthy Suresh

Keerthy Suresh who is gearing up for her upcoming film Penguin has exclusively opened up about her character in the film and shared what qualities she resemble with her on-screen personality. She further spoke about her equation with the cast and also shared the behind the scenes anecdotes. She also spoke about her connection with her on-screen son and the bond that they formed while shooting.

Are there any similarities between your on-screen and off-screen personality?

I think my character is too much of a good girl. She has her own flaws as well which we are showing in the movie, where she is being careless and all, which is what I like about the film and how she is trying to get her things back to normal. I think I had this really nice connection with my son in the movie and actually saved his name as Ajay son on my phone. So, very sweet boy.

Tell us more about your on-screen son. He has given a really great performance for such a young boy.

Yeah! He just switches like that when he is in front of the camera. He will be running around and playing around. Not like whatever you see on the screen. Very playful, naughty fellow and you say action and he just switches, oh my god I need to cope up with this guy. So, it was a challenge for me as well. I think these days kids are so talented and I am so happy for him also. Such a good space for him. Very nice opportunity. He is a one take artist! 

Tell us about your equation with the cast. Any behind the scenes fun moments?

I know Karthik, the DoP from before. My very first film he was assisting DoP Thiru Sir. This was the first film we were working on again and this was a very nice nostalgic feeling for me. His first movie and he worked with me in my first film. We had very less time for fun in between. We had very few characters in the film and see, the film is pretty serious right, so to bring in some joy off the set when you are not shooting is actually a very difficult task because you are just like running around here and there. I think one fun thing was when actually my makeup man was stung by this bee. Because he was advising around that you guys should not make a move. I know it’s a very serious thing, when you say bees stung everyone. But when I go back to those videos, everyone is under some sheets and running here and there like you know a wild elephant is out in the forest, something like that and I was under some sheet as well, some light man came and saved me.

Penguin is produced by Karthik Subbaraj under his banner Stone Bench Films and is also produced by Kaarthekeyen Santhanam, Sudhan Sundaram, and Jayaram under Passion Studios. The film has been shot simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu and will also be released in a Malayalam-dubbed version.
