Harshvardhan and Anil Kapoor’s Thar makes it big internationally; wins the Asian Academy Creative Award

With December well upon us, it is awards season and India sure has a lot to celebrate! One such reason being ‘Thar’. Anil and Harshvardhan Kapoor’s Thar that took India by the storm has also made waves abroad. The movie’s cinematographer Shreya Dubey won the ‘Best Cinematographer’ at the Asian Academy Creative Awards.

Talking about the win, Anil Kapoor said,

" When we were ideating, Harsh convinced us all to get Shreya as the cinematographer for Thar. He believed in her talent and could see what potential she had. After watching her black and white Bengali film we knew for sure that it had to be her. And she did so splendidly! Congratulations to Shreya for this win! It was very well deserved!”

While Thar won internationally beating entries from Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan and Vietnam, it has also had quite the impact back home too. The movie has been nominated for Best Film, Web Original at OTT Filmfare Awards pending decision. 

The film was highly praised for both technical nuance and brilliant story. It managed to keep the audience gripped making it one of the few OTT originals that made quite the big noise when it was released. It has also been on Netflix's #6 spot in the global non-English Top 10 making it one for the handful movies of Indian Origin to make it to the list.
