Today we celebrate the birthday of the Khalnayak of Bollywood, none other than Sanjay Dutt!
Born on 29th
July, 1959, Dutt is the son of former film actors, the late Sunil Dutt
and Nargis Dutt. He made his Bollywood debut in 1981 with film Rocky,
which unfortunately was shrouded in a cloud of misery as his mother was
unable to witness her son's rising fame, having died three days before
the release of the movie.
Dutt entered the wedlock with
actress Richa Sharma in 1987, who died of a brain tumour. They had a
daughter, Trishala, who moved to the US with her grandparents after a
long custody battle. He then married Rhea Pillai in 1998, though they
divorced in 2005. It was after that he got married to his current wife,
Manyata, in 2008. On October 2010, the two had twins, a boy,
Shahraan, and a girl, Iqra.
Dutt starred as a child actor in Reshma aur Shera in which he appeared as a Qawali singer, before making his debut with Rocky. He went on to have many successes in the following many years, such as; Jeeva, Kanoon Apna Apna, Naam, Sadak, Saajan, Khalnayak, Khoobsurat, Daag: The Fire, Haseena Maan Jayega, Chal Mere Bhai, Vaastav, Jodi No. 1, Pitaah, Kaante, Munnabhai M.B.B.S, Ek Aur Ek Gyarah, Musafir, Plan, Parineeta, Dus, Dhamaal, Shootout at Lokhandwala, All The Best: Fun Begins, Double Dhamaal, Agneepath, and Son of Sardaar. Dutt also made his TV debut as a host with Big Boss 5, which he co-hosted with close buddy, Salman Khan.
has had many run-ins with the law. In April 1993, he was arrested with
claims to terrorist interactions and illegal possession of arms.
However, he received bail in April 1995. Again in July 2007, he
was sentenced to six years of rigorous imprisonment, which was upheld by
the Supreme Court of India on 21st March, 2013, and it was
reduced to five years of imprisonment. He was given four weeks to
surrender, which was extended by another four weeks after appealing. He
is currently in jail, while analysts predict that his arrest will have a
significant impact on Bollywood, however his movies will prosper due to
his social status.
