We, at BollyCurry, are back and take immense pleasure in celebrating the 43rd birthday of one of the most talked about director-producers in Bollywood in recent times, Karan Johar.
Born on May 25th, 1972, Johar is fondly referred to as KJo. A multi-talented person, he is a director, producer, screenwriter, actor, judge, costume designer and the most liveliest anchor in his famous chat show Koffee With Karan. Despite being in his early forties, he is single and one of the most celebrated stars of the Indian Cinema industry. Son of Hiroo Johar and the highly acclaimed producer Yash Johar, he was born with a silver spoon, but that never stopped him from making a mark of his own in the industry. He is a graduate in commerce and economics, and has completed his masters in French, but Bollywood has always been the end goal for him.
Johar made his directorial debut with a movie that created waves across the globe and is now a cult classic, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, in the year 1998 with Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol Devgn and Rani Mukerji in the lead roles. The film gave him his first awards for Best Filmfare Director and Best Screenplay. His directional ventures further include impressive hits like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), My Name Is Khan (2010) and Student Of The Year (2012). Johar's production ensemble dramas include the likes of Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Dostana (2008), Wake Up Sid (2009), I Hate Luv Storys (2010), Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013), Hasee Toh Phasee (2014), 2 States (2014) and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya (2014).
As an actor, he has worked in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995), Om Shanti Om (2007), Fashion (2008), Luck By Chance (2009), Bombay Velvet (2015), and his latest stint will be Shaandaar, releasing later this year.
The actors of the new generation would give anything to work for his production house - Dharma Productions. He bagged his second Filmfare for Best Director with his 2010 flick My Name is Khan, gaining both critical appreciation and commercial success. There is a big number of Filmfare Awards, IIFA Awards, National Awards, Apsara Awards, Zee Cine Awards, Screen Awards and Stardust Awards to his credit for various contributions. In 2007, he was chosen as one of the 250 Global Young Leaders by the Geneva-based World Economic Forum 2006. He was the first Indian filmmaker to be a jury member in the Miss World competition, in Warsaw, Poland, in the year 2006.
