Happy Birthday Aruna Irani!

 

Today marks the birthday of a veteran actress known for both her impeccable acting and her dancing. Yes, we are talking about Aruna Irani who celebrates her 62nd birthday today!

 

Aruna Irani was born on 3rd May, 1952 to Faridun Irani, a Parsi, and Shaguna Irani, a Maharastrian in Mumbai. She has two siblings, Indra Kumar and Adi Irani, both who are employed in the Indian Film Industry. Irani made her debut in Bollywood with the movie Gunga Jumna (1961) at the tender age of nine in which she played the younger version of Vyjayantimala's character. 

 

Since then, Irani has acted in various roles such as Jaharana (1964), Farz (1967) and Aya Sawan Jhoom Ke (1969). However, she shot to fame by portraying the role of an aggressive and gutsy women in the super hit film Caravan (1971). Her first film as a lead came in the form of Bombay To Goa (1972) opposite to Amitabh Bachchan. Her electric pairing with Mehmood Ali was particularly talked about with the duo having acted in movies such as Naya Zamana (1971), Garam Masala (1972) and Do Phool (1973).

 

Her later works consisted of: Shahenshah (1988) Beta (1992), Raja Babu (1994) Doli Saja Ke Rakhna (1998), Dil Toh Pagal Hai (1995) amongst many more.

 

Irani won her first Filmfare award for the Best Supporting Actress for Pet Pyar Aur Paap (1985) and holds the record of winning ten nominations for the category of Best Supporting Actress. This includes the widely noticed Bobby (1973) and Rocky (1982). She was also bestowed with the Filmfare Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2012.

 

Apart from Bollywood, Irani has also made appearances in several television shows, most of which she produced. Some of her notable serials include Des Mein Niklla Hoga Chand,Dekha Ek Khwaab, Mein Lakshmi Tere Aangan Ki and Parichay - Nayee Zindagi Kay Sapno Ka. She can be currently seen in  Sanskaar - Dharohar Apno Ki which airs on Colors TV.

 

As for the talented veteran's personal life, she happily married filmmaker Kuku Kohliin 1990.
