Sanjay Dutt who is currently out on parole is serving his jail term for 1993 Mumbai blasts case in Yerwada jail.
The 56-year-old actor was found guilty of acquiring illegal weapons that were used in the deadly 1993 Mumbai attacks in which 257 people were killed, and hundreds injured. In 2007, he was sentenced to six years in jail out of which he served 18 months and then was out on bail, fighting the conviction until a court in March 2013 ordered him back to jail in Pune.
Reports out now state that the Maharashtra Governor has decided not to pardon Sanjay Dutt for his offense. A 2013 petition by former Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju seeking pardon for the actor has been rejected.
Sources say Governor Vidyasagar Rao rejected the petition on
the recommendation of the state home department, which said it would set a bad
precedent as the actor's conviction was confirmed by the Supreme Court. [sic]
Sanjay Dutt is due to be released in Feb 2016.
