Gauri Khan, Shah Rukh Khan's wife, has rented a flat in Mumbai's Khar West for her staff during the renovation of Mannat, the Khan family's iconic home. Situated in Pankaj Society, a well-known residential area, the apartment is conveniently located, just 100 meters from a previously rented duplex.
According to lease documents from Zapkey.com, the 725 sq ft flat, located on the 4th floor (Flat No. 6), is rented from Sanjay Kishor Ramani for Rs1.35 lakh per month. A security deposit of Rs4.05 lakh was paid, and the three-year agreement includes a 5% annual rent increase.
In April, Gauri Khan also rented two duplexes in Khar's Pali Hill for Rs8.67 crore for a three-year period.
Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan's Mumbai residence, Mannat, is reportedly undergoing a significant transformation. The iconic bungalow, a prominent landmark and popular tourist destination in Mumbai, is set to become even more lavish. According to recent reports, the Khan family is planning to add two more floors to the existing structure of Mannat. This expansion aims to further enhance the grandeur of the sea-facing bungalow, which is already renowned for its opulent design and prime location. Mannat, with its stunning views and luxurious features, is estimated to be worth around Rs200 crore, solidifying its status as one of Mumbai's most valuable and recognizable properties.
Reports indicate that Gauri Khan has requested coastal authorities to add two floors to their residence. The Khans currently reside in a six-story modern building adjacent to the heritage bungalow, Mannat, which was built in 1914. The proposal seeks to expand this structure to eight stories, with an estimated construction cost of Rs 225 crore.
Earlier, during a radio interview, Shah Rukh Khan disclosed that he acquired Mannat because his mother-in-law, Savita Chhibber, found his initial penthouse to be too small. Shah Rukh Khan said, “I am from Delhi. Delhiites are used to living in big houses. But in Mumbai, there is a concept of living in an apartment. Even if one is not rich in Delhi, he tries to buy a small bungalow." He continued, “When I came to Mumbai, I lived in a small apartment with my wife Gauri. My mother-in-law used to say to me, ‘How do you live in such a small house?'"
Shah Rukh Khan recounted that upon seeing Mannat, its resemblance to Delhi houses immediately appealed to him, leading him to make an immediate decision to purchase it. He acquired the property around Gauri Khan's birthday in 2001, financing the purchase with a significant bank loan. Due to financial constraints, Gauri Khan personally undertook the interior design of the house.
