The streaming giant - Netflix opened their gates for the Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss. The duo has signed a multiyear film and TV pact with the streamer, which was bidding for their services alongside Disney and Amazon.

According to the reports in The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said "We are thrilled to welcome master storytellers David Benioff and Dan Weiss to Netflix. They are a creative force and have delighted audiences worldwide with their epic storytelling. We can’t wait to see what their imaginations will bring to our members.”

In a joint statement on Wednesday, Benioff and Weiss said: "We’ve had a beautiful run with HBO for more than a decade and we’re grateful to everyone there for always making us feel at home. Over the past few months, we’ve spent many hours talking to Cindy Holland and Peter Friedlander, as well as Ted Sarandos and Scott Stuber. We remember the same shots from the same '80s movies; we love the same books; we’re excited about the same storytelling possibilities. Netflix has built something astounding and unprecedented, and we're honoured they invited us to join them."

The duo had long and extensive talks with Netflix who were also in discussions with Disney (and its newly owned cable network FX) and Amazon. Finally, the two decided to side with Netflix and extend their services.

Furthermore, it was also reported that  Amazon Studios had been the front-runner until early July when Netflix re-emerged with a competitive offer. Disney had also entered the conversation more recently, as some said the new super-sized Mouse House might have been offering a TV deal with FX Productions to go alongside a film pact with the company. Benioff and Weiss are already in business with Disney, working on a Star Wars trilogy for Disney-owned Lucasfilm.

While, the duo had been planning to sketch an end to one of the most celebrated shows of all time - Game of Thrones; Benioff and Weiss were seeking a deal worth as much as $200 million as they attempt to surpass the $150 million pact Westworld creators Lisa Joy and Jonah Nolan signed with Amazon in April.

The duo was also committed to writing a Star Wars trilogy for Disney. Now, while they've finally signed a deal with Netflix, the question remains how they plan to focus on new projects.
