Ektaa Kapoor has broken her silence on the controversy surrounding the OTT platform ALTT, following the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s recent crackdown on several streaming services for allegedly promoting explicit content. In a strongly worded statement shared on social media, Kapoor clarified that she has not been associated with ALTT since June 2021.
The statement came after the MIB flagged 25 digital platforms and links, including ALTT, ULLU, Big Shots app, Boomex, Desiflix, and others, accusing them of spreading objectionable and pornographic material through online advertisements.
Clarifying her stance, Ektaa said, “Media reports have been in circulation about ALTT being disabled by the authorities. However, contrary to such reports, Ms Ektaa Kapoor and Mrs Shobha Kapoor are not associated in any capacity whatsoever with ALTT and had stepped down from their association way back in June 2021.”

A merger involving ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd. was recently approved by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), and the newly structured entity is expected to operate ALTT officially from June 20, 2025.
Balaji Telefilms emphasised its commitment to legal standards and corporate governance in light of the controversy.
However, Kapoor’s earlier comments about ALTT have resurfaced. In an older interview with journalist Faye D’Souza, she admitted that being provocative was part of the platform’s original content strategy. “Absolutely, yes. I would not deny the strategy,” she said.
She also addressed public backlash, recalling a protest outside her house while she was away on holiday. “I didn’t know what was happening,” she said. Yet she stood by her choices: “Bad girls make history… some people will hate you, but you have to say what you believe in.”
Kapoor also said ALTT aimed to be a sex-positive platform driven by women creatives, asserting, “We are going to normalise sex for the world… and wear it on our sleeves.”
