Dipika Kakar opens up about her 1-year son’s reaction to her Liver cancer: 'Wo samajh gaya hai…'

Sasural Simar Ka fame Dipika Kakar and her husband, actor Shoaib Ibrahim, shared the devastating news via a YouTube vlog. She disclosed her battle with second-stage liver cancer, detailing the emotional toll it has taken on their family, particularly their one-year-old son, Ruhaan.

In the vlog, she talked the fear and weight that the word "cancer" brings. “Cancer is a scary word for everybody. For the patient as well as the family. But the doctors have said that I’ve gotten this illness at a time when it can be cured very easily. We are just being strong," she said.

Shoaib also discussed Ruhaan's reaction to the situation, describing their toddler as 'sensible' and sharing that Ruhaan had sensed something was wrong. He mentioned that Ruhaan's feeding had completely stopped. Dipika added, “Mumma theek nahi hai, wo samajh gaya hai. Ek aadh baar din me aake wo bolta hai mujhe, par wo samajh gaya hai. But yes, sab log hain. So, we are staying strong."

Dipika explained how the diagnosis came about. Post going through a persistent pain in her upper stomach, she sought medical attention. A scan showed a tennis ball-sized tumor in her liver, later confirmed as cancerous.

Dipika described the past few weeks as incredibly difficult. “As you all are aware, last few weeks have been quite difficult for us… walking into the hospital for a pain in the upper area of my stomach… and then finding out it’s a tennis ball size tumour in the liver and then finding out that the tumour is second stage malignant (cancerous)… it has been one of the most difficult times we have seen, experienced!"

Dipika remains hopeful despite the diagnosis. “I am all positive and determined to face this and walk out stronger InshaAllah! With my entire family being by my side… and all the LOVE and PRAYERS pouring in from all of you, I will sail through this too!"
