The much-anticipated film is based on the life of Jaswant Singh Khalra, who courageously exposed police brutality and human rights violations in Punjab during the 1990s. Before the release of this look, Diljit had already teased fans about the project, sharing that it would hit the screens in February, leading to a delay in his upcoming music album.
However, Punjab '95 has faced significant hurdles even before its release. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) reportedly suggested numerous edits, with recommendations ranging from 85 to 120 cuts. Among the most controversial was the proposed removal of Khalra's name and the reconsideration of the film's title, which references the year he disappeared under mysterious circumstances.

Directed by Honey Trehan and produced by Ronnie Screwvala, Punjab '95 promises to be a gripping portrayal of one man's fight against oppression. The cast also includes other notable actors like Arjun Rampal and Jagjeet Sandhu. The film has been a part of the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival in 2023.
As fans eagerly await its release, Diljit's rugged and raw look has already sparked discussions, setting the stage for a movie that delves deep into one of India's darker eras.
