Amidst the buzz surrounding Pakistani actress Hania Aamir's role in Sardaar Ji 3, Diljit Dosanjh faces criticism, despite the film's Indian release. Speculation arose about his removal from Border 2. However, Dosanjh quashed these rumors. He dropped a behind-the-scenes video from the Border 2 set, confirming his involvement in the highly anticipated war drama. This move comes as a response to the controversy, assuring fans of his presence in the project and addressing the speculation head-on.
Diljit's Instagram post, a video showcasing his preparation for "Border 2," quickly gained traction. Fans flooded the comments, expressing their enthusiasm. One fan exclaimed, "Punjabi aa gye oye," while many others shared heart emojis, reflecting the excitement surrounding his involvement in the film.
https://www.instagram.com/reel/DLm4Uy4Mfjo/?igsh=NTkxcjBkOTIyeTQyThe controversy escalated on June 25, when the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) formally addressed letters to co-producer Bhushan Kumar and lead actor Sunny Deol, urging them to sever ties with Diljit. While both parties have yet to issue a formal response, the silence from the production team—led by Nidhi Dutta and Bhushan Kumar—has only intensified public curiosity.
FWICE has appealed to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah to revoke the filming permissions granted to the "Border 2" team at the National Defence Academy (NDA).
In response to the escalating criticism, the film's production team is reportedly drafting an official statement to address the controversy.
Despite the controversy surrounding the casting of Pakistani actor Hania Aamir, due to a ban by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) following the Pahalgam attack, "Sardaar Ji 3" has performed well at the box office. Although not released in India due to the issue, the film earned a substantial amount during its opening weekend, driven by positive audience response in Pakistan. The Sardaar Ji 3 team revealed that the Diljit Dosanjh-led franchise's third installment has grossed an impressive Rs. 18.1 crore worldwide in its first three days. The Punjabi comedy has also reportedly set a new record in Pakistan, becoming the highest-opening Indian film in the country.
Following the release of the trailer, various groups initiated calls to ban Diljit Dosanjh and his future projects in India. Both the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued statements demanding such a ban.
Diljit Dosanjh recently addressed the controversy, telling the BBC Asian Network that the project was completed before current political tensions arose.
Jab yeh film bani thi tab situation sab theek tha. We shot this in Feb and then everything was fine. Uske baad, bhut saari badi cheezen humare haath mein nahi hai. Toh producers ne decide kiya ki film obviously ab India toh nahi lagegi, toh overseas release karte hain. Toh producers ka bahut paisa laga hua hai aur jab yeh film bann rahi thi tab aisa kuch tha nahi, he said, adding that the makers are aware they will incur losses. Now the situation is not in our hands. So if the producers want to release it abroad, I support them.
Sardaar Ji 3 stars Hania Aamir as a ghost hunter, alongside Diljit Dosanjh, who is assigned to exorcise a spirit from a UK mansion. The film blends action and comedy, with romantic elements as Hania and Neeru Bajwa compete for Diljit's affection.
