The sequel to the 2018 romantic drama Dhadak has officially marked its calendar. Dhadak 2, featuring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, will arrive in theatres on August 1, 2025. The project is being directed by Shazia Iqbal and jointly produced by Dharma Productions and Zee Studios.
This time, the film won’t follow the footsteps of a remake. Unlike Dhadak, which was an adaptation of the Marathi film Sairat, the upcoming sequel offers an original story. Set against a backdrop of class differences and emotional resistance, Dhadak 2 dives into the tensions of love clashing with societal expectations.
The announcement was made by filmmaker Karan Johar, who shared the first poster on social media. The caption, written in Hindi, read, "???? ?? ????? ??? ?? ?? ?? ????? ??... ?? ??????" (If you have to choose between dying and fighting… choose to fight). The poster, shaded in deep blue, shows Siddhant and Triptii in a tight embrace, both appearing emotionally exhausted. The imagery hints at a difficult love story with a heavy emotional core.

Both actors are known for their emotionally charged performances, and their casting has raised curiosity and expectations. The film explores themes of love, defiance, and breaking through socio-economic barriers, aiming to narrate a relationship shaped by rebellion rather than just romance.
Director Shazia Iqbal’s vision seems to place love amidst harsh realities, something not often explored in mainstream cinema. With Dharma and Zee backing it, Dhadak 2 aims to offer not just a love story, but a narrative that touches deeper societal issues.
The film is already making headlines, and with its release just over a year away, the countdown has begun. Whether the heartbreak will resonate or provoke conversation remains to be seen — but the conversation has certainly started.
