Delhi HC sets the date for hearing Sushant Singh Rajput's father's plea against the film 'Nyay: The Justice'

In a legal saga surrounding the film "Nyay: The Justice," allegedly based on the life of the late Sushant Singh Rajput, the Delhi High Court has scheduled a hearing for February 12, 2024, in response to a plea filed by Sushant's father, Krishna Kishore Singh. The plea challenges a previous single-judge bench's decision that denied a request to halt the ongoing streaming of the controversial movie.

The legal battle initiated in July of this year when the Delhi High Court declined to stay the further telecast of "Nyay: The Justice." Subsequently, in August, Sushant's father moved the court against the refusal to restrain the continued online streaming of the film. The upcoming hearing, set for February 12, 2024, will see a division bench of Justices Yashwant Varma and Ravinder Dudeja considering the arguments from all involved parties.

Earlier this year, in a related development, a division bench of Justices Varma and Dharmesh Sharma issued notices to various individuals, including the filmmakers, accused by Krishna Kishore Singh of taking 'unfair commercial advantage' of his deceased son's life. "Nyay: The Justice" had been released on the OTT platform Lapalap in June 2021, a year after Sushant's tragic demise in June 2020.

The Delhi High Court had previously declined to halt the streaming of the film in July, asserting that the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput's rights to personality and privacy had 'extinguished' with his death in 2020. The single-judge bench, led by Justice C. Hari Shankar, emphasized that the information portrayed in the film was derived from publicly available sources in the media, and thus, the filmmakers did not violate any rights of the actor.

Sushant Singh Rajput's sudden and untimely death on June 14, 2020, had sent shockwaves across the nation.
