The censorship of director Shoojit Sircar's historical film 'Sardar Udham,' starring Vicky Kaushal, has sparked outrage.

According to Times Now, the censoring of the Oscar copy of the film and the reason behind the film not being selected has stirred up a storm. 'Sardar Udham' that released early this month, was reportedly among the many in the country eyeing Oscar glory.

However, the jury members chose PS Vinothraj's Tamil film 'Koozhangal' as India's official entry for Best Foreign Film.

Sumit Basu told TOI that many people admired 'Sardar Udham' for its cinematic quality, which included camerawork, editing, sound design, and depiction of the period. Sumit, on the other hand, stated, "I thought the length of the film was an issue. It has a climax that is delayed. It takes a long time for a viewer to feel genuine sympathy for the Jallianwala Bagh martyrs."

Indraadip Dasgupta went on to say that the film is a "well-made production" with "brilliant cinematography that meets international standards." "However, it is a little long and focuses on the Jallianwala Bagh incident." It's a sincere attempt to make a lavish film about an unsung hero of India's freedom struggle. But, in the process, it re-projects our hostility toward the British. "It is not fair to hold on to this hatred in this age of globalisation," Dasgupta said.

This appears to have gone down poorly, with many claiming that the film only shows the 'facts' of the massacre.
