Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi has found himself at the center of controversy following a statement he made during the pre-release event of Brahma Anandam. The actor expressed disappointment over not having a grandson to carry forward his family’s legacy, a comment that has since drawn widespread criticism on social media.
Speaking at the event, Chiranjeevi remarked,
"When I'm at home, it doesn't feel like I'm surrounded by my granddaughters; it feels like I'm a ladies' hostel warden, surrounded by ladies all around. I keep wishing and telling (Ram) Charan, at least this time, have a boy so that our legacy continues, but his daughter is the apple of his eye... I'm scared that he might again have a girl."

This statement did not sit well with many, who viewed it as outdated and misogynistic. Netizens quickly took to X to express their disappointment. One user commented, Why should there be fear if a girl is born? Daughters carry the legacy just as much as sons do, sometimes even better. Statements like these set society back and promote regressive thinking.
Another tweet pointed out the irony, stating, “Chiranjeevi introduced his granddaughter, Klin Kaara, to the world with so much love. And now, he is implying that she is not enough to carry on the family name? Disappointing.”
Many also recalled his past remarks and behavior at public events, with some suggesting that the veteran actor is gradually tarnishing his once highly respected image. “Lately, Chiranjeevi has been making inappropriate remarks on stage, including this one about female children. It’s sad to see a star of his stature make such problematic statements,” read another critical post.
Chiranjeevi had previously announced the birth of Klin Kaara in 2023, sharing that her name was inspired by the Lalitha Sahasranamam and symbolized transformative energy and spiritual awakening. His recent comment, however, starkly contradicts his earlier affectionate words about his granddaughter, making the situation even more disappointing for fans.
On the professional front, Chiranjeevi was last seen in Waltair Veerayya, which performed well at the box office, while Bhola Shankar failed to impress. Fans are now eager to see how he navigates this backlash and whether he addresses the controversy surrounding his recent remarks.
