Colors’ show Chhoti Sarrdaarni featuring Nimrat Kaur-Ahluwalia and Avinesh Rekhi as the lead pair is gaining immense popularity amongst viewers for its fresh content. Produced by Pradeep Kumar (Producer of Meri Durga), Choti Sarrdaarni has not just won hearts but is also scoring high on TRP charts.

India Forums got in touch with producer Pradeep Kumar and in a candid chat with us he spoke about the popularity of the show, creating female-oriented shows, the trend of supernatural shows and more.

Your show Chhoti Sarrdaarni is doing well and viewers are loving the show. What kind of reactions have you been getting?

I have been getting really good response from people. Viewers are appreciating the content, cast, costumes and everything. I’m overwhelmed with all the positive response for my show. Of course, we as makers are putting in all our best efforts to make the show meaningful and successful as nowadays the competition has increased tremendously, with digital content and web series in trend, television content creators really have to pull their socks. Well, having said that, Chhoti Sarrdaarni has proved that TV audience is still there and loving they’re loving the content.

Speaking about the content on TV, there is a trend of supernatural shows right now. What would you like to comment on that?

See, when we were kids, we used to read comics about superheroes, villains and supernatural powers and used to relate to the content so there is nothing wrong with the supernatural content but of course, overdoing the same thing is not right. There is an audience for such shows and they love such supernatural content, but then again too much of anything is not good. However, even the supernatural shows have a storyline and Ekta Ma’am is the one behind all the trends in TV. She is ruling the television industry for years and has inspired me too.

Apart from supernatural shows, remakes and reboots are trending. Would you like to remake or bring back an old classic television show? If yes, which show?

There are a lot of old shows which were really amazing with enriching content and brilliant cast. I have grown up watching some really good shows like Astitva-Ek Kahaani and the likes of that. I want those kinds of shows and content to be made again.

You have earlier produced Meri Durga and now Chhoti Sarrdaarni, both, as a matter of fact, are female-oriented shows. Is that a conscious decision?

No, it’s not a conscious decision. We just wanted to bring forward good stories that would inspire the audience. Meri Durga and Chhoti Sarrdaarni are two very different stories from different genres. We did not make it because it just because it has strong female characters. As a matter of fact, if you analyze, both the stories have strong male characters too and with their support the females in the show became strong. While in Meri Durga, Durga’s father supported her sports career, in Chhoti Sarrdaarni Sarabjeet marries a pregnant woman and supports her through the tough times.

As you said earlier, digital content is the future, so are you planning on bringing something on the web platform?

Well, I’m actually producing a Marathi web series titled Kaale Dhande featuring Mahesh Majarekar in the lead role. It’s an adult comedy and has a Marathi cast.

Glad the show is doing so well in the TRP race!
I really enjoy watching this show as the story moves on a good pace and they stay true to my Punjabi culture - which i find always lacks in some other shows - they show a punjabi family but with auch OTT dialogues etc...and with Choti Sardarrni it all comes so natural!
Keep it up!
