The release date of Vicky Kaushal's historical drama, Chhava, has been postponed from December 2024 to February 2025. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh announced this on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday evening. Chhava will now steer clear of a major clash with Allu Arjun's nationwide hit, Pushpa 2: The Rule.
On Wednesday evening, Taran Adarsh tweeted, “VICKY KAUSHAL - RASHMIKA - AKSHAYE KHANNA: 'CHHAAVA' NEW RELEASE DATE ANNOUNCEMENT... #Chhaava is now set for a theatrical release on 14 Feb 2025... The release date holds special significance since it coincides with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti on 19 Feb 2025.”
Initially set for a December 6, 2024 release, Chhava was scheduled just a day after the nationwide launch of Pushpa 2. With the immense anticipation surrounding the Telugu action drama, it was anticipated to impact Chhava's performance significantly. This likely prompted the makers to opt for a safer release date.
Pushpa 2, helmed by Sukumar, features Arjun, Fahadh Faasil, and Rashmika Mandanna. By rescheduling Chhava to February, Rashmika, who is also part of Chhava, can avoid the clash of two of her films at the box office.
Chhava is a biographical drama about Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the Maratha Emperor and son of Shivaji Maharaj. Produced by Dinesh Vijan and directed by Laxman Utekar, the movie features Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, Akshaye Khanna as Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, and Rashmika Mandanna. The title "Chhava" refers to Sambhaji's nickname, which translates to 'lion cub' in Marathi. Shivaji, who founded the Maratha Empire, was known as a lion.
