Catch Shaan talking about Star's new Talent Hunt show

Star Plus capitalizing on the new trend of Reality based Singer Hunt show is all set to launch Amul Star Voice of India. Find out how different is this musical show than others by the anchor Shaan chitchatting with I-F Reporter Kirti!

Star Plus is starting a new singing talent show called Voice of India. How do you think this show is different than the other talent hunt shows that is currently being aired?

Shaan: It is difficult to say at this stage because we do not know what other shows are doing. Like I know Sa Re Ga Ma Pa is doing a Gharana show. But our format is much simpler. We are focusing mainly on the participants rather than the judges or the anchor.

Zee is looking for the talent from all over the world but we are looking very much at India because there is so much talent here. I think it is mainly a TRP gimmick to find talent from other countries because when we talk about Hindi Music or Bollywood we have best in India. We are trying to make the show as transparent as possible because we have the experience for years to host these musical shows. Trying to minimize all the flaws that has happened earlier and trying to be as fair to the children and hopefully we will pick up the best voice.

So are we concentrating on singing alone or the participants need to have the X factor?

Shaan: We are not looking for any extra X, Y, Z factor. We are concentrating on singers only. If you all go through our selection process, you will see that it is very much focused on singing alone. We don’t want any strange character doing any strange gigs and making people laugh. It is not a comedy show, it is a music show. Of course we will be grooming our participants making them presentable and make them appear more confident, but the marks or the points will not be given with the way they talk, or wear the clothes or any other X factor

You were earlier hosting shows for Zee how come change of Channel?

Indian Idol and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa are already established show do you think Star will be able to pull it off?

Shaan: I agree these shows are on air and are already established shows.Ofcourse the pressure is on us as our show is totally new. We are starting after them and to be able to pull the audience is a challenge and hope we can do it.

Why are all channels concentrating on getting singers, how about an actor?

Shaan: Well doing a singing contest is more real. Zee has done Cinestar Star Ki Khoz but it didn’t really work because you get them mouth some dialogues and then it is very difficult to say that he is the best actor. You make them dance or do a small skit but it didn’t really work. There is no real entertainment in that. The point is not only that we pick up the best singers and promote them but also the audience is getting to listen to the songs sung LIVE by young talent so the entertainment value is much higher.

How have been the auditions so far?

Shaan: The audition has been really encouraging. We have picked up some really good singers. Indore was wonderful.

Are these contestants made to sing LIVE on the stage when selected?

Shaan: Rite in the beginning when they are chosen they are put up on the stage with 1000s of people watching them. The judges as well comment on their performance. We want singers who can thrive under pressure and do not get stage fright and nervous. We need guys who have confidence who can stand up and perform rite in the beginning. We really want to set up a very high standard for them!!
