Border 2: Sunny Deol puts Lahore 1947 on backburner; Varun Dhawan to play Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya

Border 2 is one of the most awaited movies of 2026. It is coming on Republic Day matching with the nationalist sentiment of the week. It seems Sunny Deol has put Border 2 on priority. There is some patchwork on Lahore 1947 but he has taken a break from that project. Lahore 1947 is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and is a moving emotional drama around the Partition of India. While the subject is humanitarian and meaningful, Sunny Deol is unsure about how it will click given the current mood of the nation. As we know, the equation between the two nations is very bad right now after the Pahalgam attack.

All the focus of Sunny Deol is on Border 2. The shoot began in the month of February. It is based on the 1971 India – Pakistan war. Filmmaker Anurag Singh who made the blockbuster Kesari with Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra is directing the movie. Sunny Deol is back as Major Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri. Varun Dhawan is going to play the role of Colonel Hoshiyar Singh Dahiya. His journey will be traced from Sisana in Haryana to the Indo-Pak war. He was promoted as a Colonel after the war got over. Varun Dhawan has designed his look for the role.

The makers have also bought the rights of the song Sandese Aate Hai for Rs 10 crores. The new version will be sung by Arijit Singh and Sonu Nigam. Diljit Dosanjh is also a part of the cast. He is playing the role of Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, an officer in the Indian Air Force, who was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra. With great pride, Suniel Shetty said his son Ahan Shetty has joined the cast of Border 2 in the part of a Navy commander.
