'Bhool Chuk Maaf' CANCELS theatrical release; heads to OTT

In a surprising but thoughtful move, Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios have announced that their much-anticipated romantic comedy Bhool Chuk Maaf will skip its theatrical release and head straight to Prime Video. The decision comes in light of recent national events, including increased security measures and emergency preparedness drills being carried out across India. While there was a fan screening held in Delhi, a day before Operation Sindoor which had a great response, the makers took this step.

Following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, India launched Operation Sindoor, a high-precision airstrike targeting terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This swift military response has stirred both national sentiment and security protocols. As a result, city-wide blackouts and evacuation drills have been initiated in several regions to prepare for any unforeseen or war-like scenarios.

Acknowledging the gravity of the current situation, Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios shared an official note: "In light of recent events and the heightened security drills across the nation, we at Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios have decided to bring our family entertainer, Bhool Chuk Maaf, directly to your homes on May 16—only on Prime Video, worldwide. While we were eagerly looking forward to celebrating this film with you in theaters, the spirit of the nation comes first. JAI HIND."

Directed by Kunal Deshmukh, Bhool Chuk Maaf is a quirky and heartwarming romantic comedy set against the spiritual backdrop of Varanasi. The story follows Ranjan, played by Rajkummar Rao, a government employee and hopeless romantic who falls for Titli, portrayed by Wamiqa Gabbi. Just as their wedding approaches, Ranjan finds himself trapped in a time loop, reliving the same day, their Haldi ceremony over and over again. What follows is a hilarious and chaotic series of events as he tries to break free from the cycle.

The film also stars Sanjay Mishra, Zakir Hussain, Raghubir Yadav, and Jay Thakkar, offering a blend of humor, emotion, and a touch of the supernatural.
