Barun on not working with casting directors who cast on social media following

The year of 2020 may have veen extremely dreadful for everyone owing to the pandemic but it cannot be denied that it was an extremely fulfilling year for actor Barun Sobti, as he probably has the best professional year so far.

From the mega hit of a web show that was Asur to Halahal, a tout thriller film on Eros Now. Sobti has been more active than earlier owing to his choices and also getting more opportunities but there have been times when he hasn't worked in the entertainment front for long periods.

Sobti just had another show that came in on MX Player, The Missing Stint and in an interview with SpotboyE, Sobti opened up on how he chooses his projects, making social media debut and also in how some casting directors make their choices of actors based on their following.

On choosing his projects, Sobti said, "The only criteria I have is that the script should be good. I never ask what the cast is? I will never ask what the location is or anything. I will just speak to the director and if he sounds reasonable to me and I will read the script in one go, I say yes to it."

On his social media debut, he said, "No one convinced me. I had to do it but just that I was looking for the right time. What prompted me is that one day there was a conversation that you should move with the time and the people who don't change with the time is not a great idea. And I think no wants to be left behind and not be with something that is happening currently and it's working. Mujhe chize thodi late samajh aati hai basically."

On how some casting directors choose actors based on their social media following, he said, "Mujhe aise casting directors ke saath kaam hi nahi karna jo Instagram dekhkar cast karte hain. (I don't want to work with such casting directors who cast based on Instagram following)."

The actor is as always - making his point completely upfront.
