Baby John Box Office Day 2: Varun Dhawan’s Film Faces Major Decline

Varun Dhawan's Baby John sees a sharp drop in box office collections, earning only ?3.9 crore on Day 2

Varun Dhawan’s action-packed thriller Baby John opened with great promise, garnering impressive double-digit numbers on its first day. However, the momentum couldn’t sustain, and the film saw a sharp decline in collections on its second day. Released on Christmas, the film narrates the gripping story of a cop who adopts a new identity to protect his daughter, but his past resurfaces with dangerous consequences.

On its second day, Baby John collected approximately ?3.9 crore (nett) in India, as reported by Sacnilk. The total earnings now stand at ?15.17 crore (nett) within two days. The film’s opening day had registered a strong ?11.25 crore, but the over 55% drop on day 2 has raised concerns about its performance. The Hindi occupancy rate was reported at 9.39%, with morning shows drawing 5.85%, while afternoon and evening shows saw 11.23% and 11.09% occupancy, respectively.

Starring Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, and Wamiqa Gabbi, Baby John is directed by Kalees and produced by Atlee, the filmmaker behind Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan. The movie also features Jackie Shroff, Rajpal Yadav, and a cameo by Salman Khan. Despite its star-studded cast and high-octane action, the film has struggled to meet audience expectations, receiving mixed reviews since its release.

Baby John is a remake of the Tamil blockbuster Theri, which starred Vijay in the lead role. The storyline, packed with emotions and action, was expected to strike a chord with viewers. However, its second-day drop indicates a weak hold at the box office.

Trade analysts had high hopes for Baby John to close 2024 on a high note for Bollywood. But despite a good buzz before release, the action thriller faces an uphill battle in the coming days.

With audiences showing a lukewarm response, the film’s long-term success now depends on its performance over the weekend. The makers will be hoping for a strong rebound to offset the slow start.
