This week it is Emergency Vs Azaad at the box office. The first movie is based on the life of former PM Late Indira Gandhi while the latter is inspired by the folklore of Maharana Pratap and his awe-inspiring steed Chetak. Azaad was the debut of Rasha Thadani and Aaman Devgan. There was immense hype around the pretty debutante given her family legacy and show-stopper moves in the song Uyi Amma. Ajay Devgan’s nephew Aaman Devgan has proved that he has the raw looks and acting chops needed to survive in Bollywood. In fact, Azaad has got the best numbers for a film starring debutantes in post-pandemic Bollywood. It made Rs 1.5 crore on day one. It has superseded these Bollywood films starring newcomers…
Azaad made Rs 1.5 crores on its first day
Abhishek Kapoor has always stuck gold whenever he has made films with newcomers. It is no different in Azaad – a drama exploring the themes of freedom, rebellion and self-discovery. While Rasha Thadani gave fans the perfect new desi girl to swoon over, Aaman Devgan showed that he has learnt a lot from his filmi family. Those who have seen the movie are appreciating the emotions between a stable boy and a champion horse. Ajay Devgn’s strategic backing, coupled with his cameo, played a significant role in propelling Azaad to the top of the list.
Kill made Rs 1.25 cr on its first day
Raghav Juyal, Lakshya Lalwani’s Kill was a bloody good surprise. It made over Rs 1.25 crore on its first day. The indoor fight scenes were a riveting watch. Nikhil Nagesh Bhatt was the filmmaker. Urban audiences went mad over this underrated movie from Dharma Productions.
Ishq Vish Rebound got off to a solid start of Rs 1.2 crores
Fans still remember Ishq Vishk starring Shahid Kapoor, Amrita Rao and Shehnaz Treasurywala that came out in 2003. Banking on the nostalgia value, Tips made a movie starring fresh talents like Pashmina Roshan, Jibraan Khan and Rohit Saraf. Directed by Nipun Dharmadhikari and backed by Ramesh Taurani’s Tips, the film struck a chord with fans of its franchise and opened strongly at ?1.2 crores.
Laapataa Ladies had a modest opening of Rs 75 lakhs
Produced by Aamir Khan, this quirky comedy set in rural India explored the chaos surrounding two missing brides. Starring Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, and Sparsh Shrivastava, the film was directed by Kiran Rao and garnered critical acclaim. However, it managed a moderate opening of ?75 lakhs compared to the top contenders.
Rajveer Deol and Paloma Dhillon's Dono made Rs 50 lakh
Dono caught the eye of the public with its first promo. Sooraj Barjatya’s son Avnish Barjatya made his debut as a director with this movie. It also starred the handsome younger son of Sunny Deol, Rajveer Deol and Paloma Dhillon. Dono was liked by the family audiences and made Rs 50 lakh on its first day.
The much acclaimed Farrey too made a modest Rs 50 lakh on day one
Farrey was directed by Soumendra Padhi who is known for his work in the OTT space with Jamtara. It was about student life and how one does go overboard in the rat race of exams and admissions. It made Rs 50 lakhs on its starting day despite Salman Khan’s promotions. Alizeh Agnihotri won immense love for her acting talents.
Binny and Family had a low opening for the young debutante
This lighthearted comedy centered on a quirky family and their antics. Despite its entertaining premise and Varun Dhawan’s support for his debutant niece Anjini Dhawan, Binny and Family, directed by Ssanjay Tripathy, struggled to make a significant impact at the box office, opening with ?35 lakhs.
Azaad is facing box office competition in the form of Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency and Pushpa 2 Reloaded. These numbers prove that Rasha Thadani and Aaman Devgan have indeed caught the eye of the masses and classes.
