The much-anticipated debut film of Aaman Devgn and Rasha Thadani, Azaad, opened at the box office with Rs 1.5 crore on its first day. The film clashed with Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency, which earned Rs 2.35 crore, making it a tough competition. Despite the lukewarm start, the makers hope positive word-of-mouth will help the film’s performance over the weekend.
As per early reports by Sacnilk, Azaad received mixed reactions from the audience. The action-adventure drama is set in pre-Independence India and revolves around Govind (Aaman Devgn), a stable boy from an underprivileged background. The story captures his journey from seeking revenge to becoming a rebel under the mentorship of Vikram Singh (played by Ajay Devgn), a dacoit fighting for justice.
Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency clearly dominated the box office, but Azaad still holds potential. The film features an extended cameo by Ajay Devgn, which has piqued the interest of fans. Moreover, the chemistry between the lead pair, Aaman and Rasha, adds a fresh touch to the narrative. Rasha Thadani, daughter of Raveena Tandon and Anil Thadani, delivers a promising debut performance.
The plot explores the complex dynamics between Govind and Jaanki (Rasha Thadani), the daughter of a ruthless zamindar. Govind’s initial thirst for revenge transforms into a fight for justice. The film also emphasizes his bond with his horse, Azaad, which serves as a central symbol of loyalty and strength.
Although ticket prices were slashed to Rs 99 nationwide to attract more viewers, the opening numbers remain underwhelming. However, with the extended weekend and mixed reviews, Azaad might gain momentum in the coming days.
Fans of Ajay Devgn and newcomers Aaman and Rasha can catch Azaad in cinemas. The film promises a compelling story against the backdrop of British India.
