The murder trial of Los Angeles serial killings has seen new progress as a new suspect is being pointed out in the killing of Ashton Kutcher’s ex-girlfriend Ashley Ellerin. Michael Gargiulo - who allegedly slaughtered three women in a crime spree dating back to 1993 was described by prosecutors as a calculated murderer.

Gargiulo is said to have studied the notorious killer Ted Bundy and faces the death penalty as he was called out for being a sick disciple of Bundy. He was seen laughing in the courtroom on Tuesday as the jurors heard a chilling closing statement.

Deputy District Attorney Garrett Dameron said: "He (Michael Gargiulo) researched other serial killers, like Bundy. He told people he knew how to leave no fingerprints. He knew how to avoid being seen exiting a crime scene covered in blood and with a bloody knife.”

The accused was put on trial for the killing of three women, while one of them was Kutcher’s ex-girlfriend who was just 22-years-old when she was murdered.

Ellerin was butchered in her residence as she waited for her actor boyfriend to meet her for a date. He further revealed that the two last spoke at 8.24 pm when Kutcher testified that he told Ellerin he was running late and Ellerin told him she had just gotten out of the shower.

Attorney Daniel Nardoni told jurors that Ellerin's apartment manager - an aspiring actor; testified that he was having a sexual relationship with her, and was in the house when Kutcher called. Nardoni pointed out to the jurors that the call could have made him angry and violent.

He tried to convince a jury that two other men may have been responsible for the stabbing deaths 43-year-old Michael Gargiulo is charged with, and in the case of Ashley Ellerin, who was killed in her Hollywood home in 2001, he said the testimony of Kutcher, who testified in the early days of the trial in May, was key when combined with two others.

"Ashton Kutcher is a celebrity star in the entertainment industry. And I believe Ashton Kutcher is the star witness in this case." Nardoni said.

The reports in The Sun described Kutcher giving a tearful testimony during the three-month trial in which he recalled being "hours" late to pick her up.

He mentioned how he arrived late at the then 22-year-old on the night of February 22, 2001. But, when he got there two hours late, then-21-year-old Kutcher said he found the lights on and the door locked.

Peering through the window he saw "what I thought was a red wine spilled on the carpet." The tearful Kutcher added: "I didn't really think anything of it; figured I screwed up" and that Ashley had gone out with a pal.”

She had in fact been stabbed 47 times in a frenzied attack while she was in the shower - with her brutalised body found by a roommate the next day.

Michael Gargiulo was suspected for the killing of Ms Ellerin as the attempt was strikingly similar to three other attacks Gargiulo is accused of carrying out. Another official asserted that the killings of three women and the attempted killing of a fourth who fought him off were all the unmistakable work of ruthless Gargiulo.
