Abhijeet Bhattacharya Opens Up About Rift with Shah Rukh Khan: "I Lost My Mind..."

Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya has once again addressed his much-discussed fallout with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, for whose films he has delivered several iconic songs. In a candid interview with Bollywood Thikana, the playback singer not only spoke about their alleged rift but also shed light on how trolls have exacerbated the situation.

"We aren’t fighting. But the situation is being made worse because of these puny trolls who insist on butting into a matter concerning legends," Abhijeet remarked, sarcastically addressing the persistent online chatter about their strained relationship on an interview with Indian Express.

When asked why he hasn’t patched things up with Shah Rukh or sung for his recent films, Abhijeet quipped, “It was important for these differences to emerge. Had they not, how would ‘Lungi Dance’ exist? He can produce and sing his own songs; as it is, they call my tracks ‘Shah Rukh Khan’s songs.’”

Reflecting on his heyday, Abhijeet admitted that success after working on SRK’s films made him overly confident.

I would tell them that I’m on my way but would never show up. Perhaps I made the wrong decision, but I was so loyal to being Shah Rukh’s voice

The singer also revealed his unwavering dedication to SRK, stating, “I became very comfortable as Shah Rukh’s go-to playback singer, and had no desire to sing for any other stars. I lost my mind. But I was right. If others are making mistakes, let them. I would turn down offers to sing for other stars, but the moment they told me it’s Shah Rukh’s song, I would go.”

Abhijeet also touched upon the negativity he faced from SRK’s contemporaries in the industry. “There were a few stars who told me, ‘hakle ke liye gaa raha hai na tu (You are singing for the stammerer)?’ I was like, ‘Why are they feeling jealous? I got the award for my singing.’ After that experience, I lost interest in playback singing for the stars and started focusing on my shows and concerts. Even today, I am very happy doing that.”

While Abhijeet maintains that there’s no ongoing feud, he had previously expressed feeling ‘hurt’ by Shah Rukh. In an earlier interview with Pinkvilla, he said, “Shah Rukh is aware of this.” Despite the lingering bitterness, Abhijeet referred to SRK as the only true ‘nationalist’ among the Khans.

The remarks have reignited discussions about the tumultuous relationship between the singer and the actor, whose collaborations resulted in some of Bollywood’s most memorable tracks.
