A Long Wait: 'Homeland' Final Season Won't Air Until 2020

The drama is going the Game of Thrones way...

Homeland

A long wait is to be expected for all the fans of Homeland out there. Having spawned 7 seasons, it was confirmed a while ago that the show will be having it's eighth and final season soon.

But now, according to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, the Claire Danes led starrer won't be airing it's final season till 2020 and has a February 9 date sealed for now.

The February date will mean that Homeland will have been off the air for nearly two years. Season seven debuted on Feb. 11, 2018, with that run wrapping in late April of the same year.

In August 2018, Showtime officially confirmed that Homeland would wrap with its eighth season after both showrunner Alex Gansa and Danes had indicated the upcoming season would be its last.

"Homeland is an ambitious series, especially in its final season. Alex wants to go out proudly, and he's going to. That has involved production in multiple countries and at times in places that have some issues," Showtime entertainment president Gary Levine told reporters Friday at TCA. "It just takes time. There have been no missteps here; it's been a relatively smooth process but a very ambitious production schedule that has taken more time than we thought it would. One of the things that we do at Showtime [is a strategy that] we'd rather have it good than fast."

Here's how Showtime describes the final season: Season eight finds Carrie Mathison (Danes) recovering from months of brutal confinement in a Russian gulag. Her body is healing, but her memory remains fractured — which is a problem for Saul (Mandy Patinkin), now national security adviser to the newly ascendant President Warner (Emmy and Golden Globe winner Beau Bridges). The top priority of Warner’s young administration is an end to the “forever war” in Afghanistan, and Saul has been dispatched to engage the Taliban in peace negotiations. But Kabul teems with warlords and mercenaries, zealots and spies — and Saul needs the relationships and expertise that only his protégé can provide. Against medical advice, Saul asks Carrie to walk with him into the lion’s den — one last time.

We cannot wait for it already The show airs on Star World in India.
