14 die as bus falls into river in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, Oct 11 (IANS) At least 14 people, including seven children and four women, were killed Monday when the bus carrying them fell into a river in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district, police said.

Lucknow, Oct 11 (IANS) At least 14 people, including seven children and four women, were killed Monday when the bus carrying them fell into a river in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district, police said.

The accident took place along the bridge of the Choiya river in Dibai town. The bus fell into the river from a height of around 25 feet, killing 14 people on the spot, Deputy Superintendent of Police J.R. Joshi told IANS on phone from Bulandshahr, some 400 km from here.

'Till now, 14 bodies have been recovered. The injured are being treated in a hospital,' he said.

Even as the exact number of passengers is yet to be ascertained, police estimate there were around 35 people.

Police are also yet to establish why the accident took place.

The passengers were labourers heading to Badaun district from Ghaziabad to vote in the panchayat elections.
