Shaurya sat on the dining table to have his breakfast when the doorbell rang. Awara went to open the door. Putting a little more butter on his aloo paratha, Shaurya was about to munch in when Awara came and handed him a letter. Keeping the paratha back in the plate, he opened the letter after wiping his hand with the napkin. He put on his glasses to read what was actually written in the letter.
Shaurya,
When you'll be reading this letter main shayad kabr mein apne imaan aur amaal ki gawahi de rahi hongi. Writing this letter to let you know that maine tumhein maaf kar diya har uss takleef ke liye jo tumnein aur tumhari family nein mujhe diye the. Main iss duniya ka koi bhi bojh le ke Allah ke saamnein nahi jaana chahti. Apna khyaal rakhna.
Mehek Javed
The letter slipped from his hand and he fell on the ground. Awara rushed to him. He helped him to his room and ran to get some water for him.
"Shaurya, you just can't marry someone out of the religion." Karuna shouted on him. "Maa, I love Mehek. Humare religions kahan aa gye beech mein?" Shaurya tried to pacify his Mom. "Aur ab kuch ho bhi nahi sakta, humein already Nikaah kar liya hai. She's outside." Shaurya bowed his head down. "Wow congrats Bhai!" Anjali hugged Shaurya and gestured her Mom. "Go get Bhabhi in. Main Maa ko mana lungi." She whispered in his ears. "Maa. Pretend you are okay with the marriage if not happy aur kisiko badkidaar saabit karnein mein kitna waqt lagta hai?" She told Karuna once Shaurya was out.
"Ye ladki iss gair mard ke saath na jaane kya kar rahi thi iss band kamre mein." Karuna shouted in front of the entire family and Shaurya who just returned from a two day business trip. "Shaurya, mera yakeen karo. Main tumhare cousin ke saath iss room mein band ho gyi thi. You know I love you." Mehek cried holding Shaurya's hands. "Par Maa jhooth kyun bolengi?" Shaurya said without looking at her. "Shaurya?" Mehek said looking at him with eyes full of tears. A tear or two spilled out of his eyes too. Mehek saw the disbelief in Shaurya's eyes and that pierced her heart. Jab kisi rishte mein bharosa nahi rehta toh aise rishton se doori hi behtar hoti hai. She left!
"Dekha Maa! Bhai ko shakk tak nahi hua hum logon pe and that girl is out of the house." Karuna and Anjali were laughing at their victory. "Waah!" Shaurya clapped his hands. "Kya game khela hai. Yaar! Meri kya galti thi? Mehek ki kya galti thi? Chee! It feels disgusting to even call you both my family."
After searching for Mehek for two continuous days he got her on Mehrauli Dargaah. "Mehek. Please forgive me. I love you. I'm sorry that I didn't trust you. Please ek mauka aur de do. Please!" He kneeled before her.
"Mujhe ab tumhari Mohabbat pe aitbaar nahi. Main gunahgaar hoti aur tab tum mere saath aa kar khade hote toh main tumhari mohabbat ka yakeen kar leti."
"Kaun hai Mehek aisa jo kisi gunahgaar ke saath khada ho?"
"Allah. Allah hai na. Woh gunahgaar ki sunta bhi hai, usko bakhshta bhi hai, usko nawaazta bhi hai."
( These (in italics) are my favourite dialogue from that show ❤️)
He read the letter again and cried like anything. That was the last time on Mehrauli dargaah he saw her last. She left to never return. It's not that he didn't search for her, he did, for all the past 20 years but he couldn't. Gathering himself he took the car keys and drove to the graveyard.
Offering some red roses that she loved and few Arabic verses from Quran she ever taught him he sat beside the grave that said, "Mehek Javed" in urdu and English.
The End.
