I agree about the identity thing. Feriha doesn't want 'peon's daughter' to be the only thing that defines her. She wants to create an identity of her own.
In one of the episodes Mrs Sanem says to Cansu that she's getting jealous of a peon's daughter... so according to her it's bad to get jealous of Feriha because she's a peon's daughter. She's not worthy of their jealousy because she's poor
