Sacrebleu! Excuse my French, I was cringing over the casual use of expletives in today's episode. How many times will the writer reinstate that Afzal is a k@****a? WE GET IT! So now that our Afzal is in Karachi, he befriends another bura aadmi like himself- Babu Hameed (The 70s called- they want Babu Hameed back!) Babu invites him to stay with him- erm, yes, we seem to be seeing one too many dostaana type friendships lately. Afzal in turn offers to pay off his rent debt. Babu mentions his vicious maalik makaan ki beti- Yasmeen but his intro wasn't complete without our writer's favorite adjective- k@****i! Since *singing* it's a small world after all, Yasmeen happens to be the same lady Afzal saw on the train. This mother-daughter duo of Farah Nadeem and Sohai Ali Abro have haunted me in their past appearances in Tanhaii and Khoya Khoya Chaand and I was devastated to see them here.

Enough of my melodrama, getting back to the drama, Farah feels sorry for Aunty Ruqayya and Molvi Saheb (really?) since their only son has left for Karachi and Lubna mocks her saying that she's fallen in love with Afzal. Farah stands by her statement of feeling bad for his parents but nah, I'm not buying it. Lubna warns her Barabar ka soloog karega tumharey saath and for a split second Farah seems intimidated. But that was just for a split second, mind you. Our tigress is back in full form and she announces her desire to pursue her M Phil in Karachi instead of London, but this time around Sheikh Saheb blunty lets out a big fat NO! About time, isn't it? Sheikh Saheb's defining moment- Mein Tumhara Baap Houn Koi Chaney Beechney Wala Nahin! Now that her parents know that Farah acts before she thinks, they've finally opened their eyes and want to put an end to her manmaani.

Afzal continues his male bonding routine and confides in Babu about how he's come to Karachi to become a bara aadmi and how he won't leave until he accomplishes his goals. Meh. Since they didn't want to make us uneasy, they used plenty of cricket analogies to keep the conversation flowing. With the letters out of sight, so was Arifa thankfully! Did anyone else do a happy dance that she wasn't around? If I were to sum up this episode in one word, I would say DISAPPOINTED. This was such a promising story and had a raw, feel-good factor but alas, it wasn't meant to be.

Today's episode was a tribute to some of Bollywood's iconic moments- Arifa's "Hamarey paas maa Afzal hai"; Afzal's retort to the hiring manager who suggested he could work as a security guard and my personal favorite- Babu Hameed's revenge saga. Watch out people, there's a killer on the loose. The story didn't really move forward but we got to see snippets of just about every character.

I don't know about you, but I have to agree with Sheikh Sahab- Mere demaagh ka alu bana diya hai! So Farah continues obsessing over Afzal and thinks of ways to bring him back. Her ingenious idea of running an ad on TV was shot down by Lubna who told her Arifa felt she didn't even deserve Afzal's photograph! Nahinnn. Speaking of obsessing, how can we forget Arifa? Anddd, as if they didn't have enough competition already, enter the newest contender for the title "Who's the most obsessed of them all?"- Yasmeen! This self-proclaimed beauty/ khoonkhaar billi has more to her than meets the eye. She and her mother have secrets- maybe even worse than *gasp* Babu Hameed!

Lubna has consistently been Farah's voice of reason and Farah has done nothing except belittle her. But no matter how many times Lubna shows her the mirror, Farah refuses to change! Driven by a sense of guilt (I can only venture to guess) Farah felt the need to go over to Arifa and discuss Afzal (unpredictable, eh?). Their pointless conversation did nothing except cause my interest to plummet.

This episode was much better than its predecessor but I'm afraid of jinxing it further. Molvi SubhanaAllah and his wife always manage to bring a smile to my face but Sheikh Sahab is proving to be hilarious. His dialogue delivery is effortless and he breathes life into the show. Whether he's trying to reason with his daughters- Apni baat ko iss tarhan kaho jaise kisi gaawaar aur jahil admi se baat kar rahi ho or curbing his enthusiasm, Apney baap ko khaulte huwey teil mein daldo gi uska pakora bana do gi aur phir kahogi, "Abb mein jaoun?", Shehreyaar Zaidi is par excellence as the exasperating Sheikh Ibrahim.

Even though nothing is working to his advantage, Afzal continues to dream big. His Third Division BA isn't exactly an asset but this guy isn't calling it quits. Siblings are known to take on the traits of one another- Afzal has turned into a busybody much like Arifa. He makes his way to confront the other tenants- a married couple with trust issues. According to Babu Hameed (sab ki khabar rakhta houn), the wife had an affair before her marriage and was stupid enough to tell her husband. He can't seem to forgive her and resorts to domestic violence. From the conversation Afzal had with the victim of abuse, she seems to be the girl who his friend Saajid was in love with. Will Afzal rescue this damsel in distress? Will Afzal invest in a new cap? Will Afzal succeed in becoming a bara aadmi? More importantly, will we be watching till the end?

So it's clear now that Bollywood is here to stay! Last week we had a tryst with 80s flavour and this week we were treated to Legen " wait for it... ...Dary action sequences la Dabangg. After all, what better way to get the audience to wake up and take notice than some good ol' dishum dishum! Maut zindagi ki hifazat karti hai, ussey mat darna, zindagi se darna...The only thing missing was Afzal tearing his shirt- now THAT would be paisa vasool!

How did all this make it's way into a simple love story you ask? Well, it so happens that the shareef zadis- Yasmeen and her mommy dearest have a not-so-shareef rishtedaar- Wali. Wali has his eyes set on marrying Yasmeen but according to Google Chacha- aka Babu Hameed, Wali is a characterless womanizer who marries and discards women casually *rolling eyes*.

Farah has finally succumbed to the reality that she might truly be going cuckoo. It's about freakin' time! She's been nothing but trouble from the get go. Lubna, her trusted sidekick has agreed to do the deed- find her the best shrink in H'town! There are other ways, Lubna- a good whack across her face should knock some sense into her. While we're on the subject, how creepy does Arifa seem? The poor girl clearly needs therapy- any takers?

I suffered a mild stroke when I mistook the Ayat-e-Kareema khatam to be a mayyat scene. I missed Sheikh Sahab today- he has some of the best dialogues. Even Molvi Saheb's scenes were restricted to a mere guest appearance. Wali hogged most of the footage and the rest of it were random repetitive scenes between Farah and Lubna/ Farah and her Ammi/ Farah and her wooden furniture.

Yasmeen seems to be falling for our Dabangg Afzal and Farah has yet another theory about Afzal- he eloped with the mystery girl who wrote to him! Lagta hai Karachi se wapas baap banke ayega, k@****a. All this drama needs now is an item number and we're golden. For those of you that watched this episode, here's a little pop quiz: Will Afzal ever wear a fresh, clean T-shirt? Will the womenfolk ever discuss anything like the prices of alu and bhindi instead of Afzal? Will Yasmeen and Farah have a dance-off for Afzal?

Bow chika wow wow! So our fearless Yasmeen is coming on strong and poor Afzal has no idea what just hit him. All those mehmaan nawaaziyan aren't in vain- this girl is on a mission and she's not backing down. Not just yet, anyways. After last weeks encounter with Wali, Afzal's status has been elevated to that of a Bhai. Not the brotherly type Bhai- no siree, but the gangsta! Yes, it seems Wali was feared by all and his defeat signaled the birth of a new don in town. Take notes, Bashar, now here's a man who can talk the talk and walk the walk. And let's not forget his looks...

Back in H'town, Farah is still unsuccessfully trying to convince Lubna that she has no feelings for Afzal. Why does the poor lass even bother? She's just driving herself further into the abyss. Haath se gayi hui mohabbat bhoot banjaati hai; phir who kabhi yahan nazar aati hai, kabhi wahan. I was pleasantly surprized to see Vasay Chaudhary playing the role of the shrink. Full points for casting- he was nothing short of sublime.

Molvi Sahab and the missus are losing patience with each other since Afzal's departure- Tum aur tarhan se tarapti ho, aur mein zara aur tarhan se tarapta houn! A mother's love for her children clearly supercedes all else. In the Ibrahim household, Sheikh Sahab very subtly hinted to his wife that she needs to work on her relationship with her daughters and become their confidante. I have thoroughly enjoyed the focus on human relationships in this drama- be it the husband/ wife equation, the parent/ child rapport or the siblings in synchronization. I think the writer has captured the essence of the characters through developing their deep-rooted emotional bonds.

The highlight of today's episode was Lubna's plea and Farah's consequent reaction. Ouch! I've lost count of the number of thappars in this drama. So now we're back to square one- was it Lubna who wrote those letters? Does Lubna actually have feelings for Afzal or is she just trying to get Farah to discover her true feelings? Did Lubna plan this all along to ensure she would end up with Afzal? It's back to the drawing board for me!

Lubna's confession has piqued Farah's curiosity and has brought out the green-eyed monster. By now, we had established that Farah was almost on her way to the madhouse due to her unexplainable temper tantrums but it seems that she's beyond help and needs some extreme measures- restraints would be a good start after her recent outburst. Clearly, any hint of sisterly love has been tossed out the window.

Lubna's mother asks her to come clean about the man in her life. Hum miyan biwi ko sadmey jhelnay ki adat hogayi hai. In a parallel universe, Yasmeen's mother continues to pry about her feelings for Afzal. Both the mothers are overly protective of their daughters and naturally looking out for them. I find the mother-daughter relationships to be an interesting contrast- Lubna exercises great caution when speaking to her mother- probably due to a sense of respect coupled with fear. Yasmeen is bold and outspoken and her mother, though caring, isn't overbearing.

Sheikh Ibrahim offered to pull some strings and find Afzal if indeed he was in Karachi. Molvi Sahab graciously accepted and made his way home to inform his wife. However, her restlessness over Afzal's disappearance has driven her to venturing in the world of spirituality- Roohani Ilaaj. She summoned an Aalim and asked him to perform Faal to help her locate Afzal. He warned her that she is treading on a dangerous path especially being the wife of a reputable molvi. I felt this was completely unnecessary but the trend of peers seems to creep its way into every storyline!

Reality bites and our beloved Afzal has come to terms with his reality- his net worth is about Rupees 10,000 and with that in mind, he has taken up the post of a security guard. All those dreams of becoming a bara admi have taken a back-seat for the moment, or have they? Since coincidences seem to be the order of the day, Afzal's employer happens to be none other than the lovelorn Mehtaab. What remains to be seen is will Mehtaab exploit this opportunity to his full potential- or will he settle for being Afzal's wing man? On a side-note, if anyone was second-guessing where the writer draws his inspiration, today's toxic overdose of Lahu Muh Lag Gaya should lay those doubts to rest.

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. BANG. BANG. Today's episode made me squeal with excitement and then took my breath away. The pace was perfect- there was so much that transpired and the story is finally moving along. The past few weeks I've been complaining and I'm happy to note that there's light at the end of the tunnel. Farah continues huffing and puffing but Lubna is a changed woman- she seems far more confident and daring. Mehboob ke sarr ke samney, behan ka sarr tarbouz hota hai! Could this be love?

Yasmeen boldly keeps making advances at Afzal- Ab iss tarhan se ghoor ke dekho gay to saaf saaf nazar lag jaye gi... She's definitely coming on too strong but Afzal remains unaffected by her charms. Yasmeen's mother, aware of her daughter's growing feelings for Afzal, sits him down and asks him if he's interested in her. I can sense her insecurities but Yasmeen doesn't seem like a girl who needs any help. She's already lined up her options and I'm happy to see a bold, confident go-getter instead of the usual helpless females that hog our screens. There was a sweet interaction between the mothers of Afzal and Farah/Lubna. I liked how Ruqqaiyya was initially skeptical but once she heard that Sheikh Sahab had vowed to find Afzal, she melted right away. Saba Hameed's character is so completely loveable. Her pairing with Firdous Jamal has been exceptional.

The showdown between Mehtaab and Afzal was bound to be powerful- Mehtaab made it a point to remind Afzal that he is Farah's mangaitar and mocked Afzal for dreaming about the likes of Farah. Hai Allah, 10,000 rupay mahinay aur ishq Farah Ibrahim se... But our Afzal isn't one to backdown- Ishq ko choriye sir, ishq jab duniya mein aya tha na, to ussey duniya mein paise nahin aye theh... That's the man you want to bet your money on, ironic isn't it? Just when I thought Farah's rejection had transformed Mehtaab, his desperate conversation with Lubna who spoke under the pretext of Farah made me smile. Here's the simpleton we all missed seeing- the jealousy was obvious in his cocky phussphussa lagta hai but his innocent request for reconsideration melted my heart. Lubna is going full steam ahead here- she's on a mission to find Afzal and she's leaving no stone unturned. I keep thinking that this is a ploy and she's trying to get Farah to admit her true feelings but then I wonder, would she be this aggressive is she wasn't in love?

After all the highs, it's time for my rant- I wasn't amused with the number of beeps during her conversation- let's keep it classy, yo! I also found the scenes of Samina pointless. I couldn't care less if she leaves her abusive husband or stays. Why is she even in the story I wonder.

The last few minutes were murder (no pun intended). Wali is back with a vengeance. It seems he didn't take the last encounter too well and came fully equipped this time with guns and goons. Two shots were fired leaving me on the edge of my seat! As much as I enjoy the excitement of what comes next, the suspense is killing me! (I just did it again- unintentionally, I promise). I'm going to be restless and fidgety for the next 6 days now. I would like to request all of you to join me for a moment of silence to pray for our beloved Afzal... Khuda jisey Afzal dedey ussey hauslay bhi Afzal deta hain. Magar mere paas aisa hausla kahan!

As exasperating as it was to wait a whole week for tonight's episode, I'm relieved to report that there were no casualties! With two shots fired at point-blank range, I'll attribute the sloppy shooting skills of our hit-man to a lack of cadet training- or divine intervention if you will- take your pick, I'm not going to throw a hissy fit. Not today, anyways! Suna hai maa jab darr jaye toh aam logon ko bhi darr hi jaana chahiye-a mother's intuition is not something that should be taken lightly and Molvi Sahab, despite his status as a revered man of knowledge, never underestimates his wife's status as a mother. How often do we see such positive vibes? While Ruqaiyyah was praying for her son's well-being, Farah bibi was busy lecturing Lubna on the virtues of namaaz- Dus tarhan ke fotoor aur hazaar tarhan ki balayein talti hain! Yes, it seems Farah's powers of premonition have been fully restored. Farah's modus operandi is fairly simple- sleep your way through to your goal. No, no, not in THAT context- geez! She literally slept in the car so her daddy would take her along on his mission to find Afzal. Woh joh parha tha usney aaj tak, Afzal par phoonk nay jaa rahi hai!

Yasmeen's restlessness over her zaati kiraidaar is becoming a growing concern for her mother- she's convinced Yasmeen is setup for disappointment even though Yasmeen seems pretty confident. Zindagi mein aaney jaaney walon ka nahin poochtey; yeh poochtey hein ke dil mein to koi nahin hai? Words of wisdom indeed from a woman who has probably dealt with her fair share of disappointments. After recovering from an operation, Babu Hameed tries to convince Afzal to return to his hometown but Afzal is adamant he's here to stay. Marjaoun toh taboot mein daalkar bhejday lekin jeenay ke liye Hyderabad nahin jaoun ga mein... Afzal might have recovered from his gunshot wounds but clearly his heart has been shattered beyond repair- lagta hai jorah hua dil ziada solid nahin hota yaar; admi ko sirf zinda rakhney ke liye kaamyaab hai! The conversation between Afzal and the police was very amusing- it reminded me of his earlier conversation with the guy who offered him the job of a security guard. You've gotta hand it to him, even though he's down and out, Afzal knows how to command respect. He is also keen on settling the score with Wali. However, having said that, I wonder if his father's teachings will convince him that instead of seeking retribution, he should turn the other cheek and be.

Today's episode was as good as it gets- impeccable direction, commendable production values and exceptional dialogues. Let's not forget the pre eminent actors who have delivered through and through. As if last week wasn't enough to get a head rush, this week ended on another precarious note- Farah and her father managed to trace Afzal's whereabouts and reached Yasmeen's home! Will Yasmeen succeed in keeping Farah in the dark about Afzal? Will Farah continue her relentless search for a man she claims she can't stand? How will Lubna react to Farah's quest?

What a medley this is turning out to be! Chance meetings, confrontations, showdowns, just about everything rolled into 40 odd minutes. Farah and Yasmeen finally came face-to-face and fortunately neither of them went home with any scratches- not the visible kind, anyways! Despite the cool exterior, both were curious as to how the other was linked to Afzal. Yasmeen's biwiyon waley expressions were reason enough for Farah to deduce her involvement with Afzal. Yasmeen is clearly smitten with Afzal - maine dekha hai ke mein apni feelings ko chupa nahin sakti. Not just that, she doesn't even want to explore the possibility that there may be another woman in Afzal's life. Envy, after all, comes from wanting something that isn't yours. But grief comes from losing something you've already had. And right now, Farah is in the process of accepting the transition from envy to grief. But she is not one to take it sitting down- she rejoices in the knowledge that Afzal is exactly the kind of guy she thinks he is. Sheikh Sahab's patience is quickly running dry- Apney dimaag ka ziada istamaal mat kiya karo! Tum uski khaslat se ziada mere tajurbay ko lalkaar rahi ho warna meri umar mein log andhey bhi houn toh guftaar se kirdaar ko jaanch letey hein. Sheikh Sahab is convinced his instincts about Afzal are the exact opposite of how Farah perceives him.

Farah continues her rant with Lubna and gloats in the realization that Afzal has a new woman in his life- I have to wonder, is her denial keeping her from breaking down? Farah turned every shade of green while talking with Yasmeen and she becomes livid whenever Lubna mentions his name. Is it her snobbery that keeps her from associating herself to a tatpoonji like Afzal or is it her fear of being unable to face rejection? Love is indeed a strange emotion- it captivates you and makes you bow down before it. But the moment she found out Afzal was recovering from gunshot wounds, her expressions soften to that of genuine concern. Afzal can't seem to get over her either even though he seems to be aware of Yasmeen's feelings for him. One of the sweetest moments was when Farah walked in and Afzal finally accepted goliyon se bara zakhm uss gaali ka hai jo Hyderabad mein sunkar araha houn. Just as I was holding my breath for a response, turns out it was a lucid dream! Yet another bait to keep the audience hooked!

Finally, just when I thought we had seen enough drama, the real action began! Wali harasses Yasmeen and his Khala into letting him into their home and shamelessly puts forth an indecent proposal. Babu Hameed holds a gun to him but before he can take him down, Wali's goons get to him. The attack on Babu Hameed will only reinforce Afzal's motives of getting back at Wali- mazloom zaalim ki wajah se nahin hota balkey zaalim mazloom ki wajah se hota hai! Our hero was on his feet trying to get to Babu Hameed completely ignoring his goliyon ka zakhm, mind you but Sheikh Sahab and family came just in time. This will be the third episode that ends on a dangler. Once again, I shall be restless for the next six days in anticipation of what comes next. What did you make of today's episode? Any thoughts on what happens next? Will Afzal avenge Babu Hameed? Will Babu Hameed make a miraculous recovery and become Afzal's voice of reason? Will Afzal agree to return to his hometown? Will the ladies battle it out in a "Winner takes Afzal" fashion?

You know you've got it bad when you start adjusting your schedule around your favorite drama. This has been my struggle since the past few weeks. With no end in sight (not that I'm waiting for it to end), I'll have to keep maintaining my work - life (read drama) balance over the next few weeks to come. Getting back to today, the tragic death of Babu Hameed stirred up quite a few reactions all around. Farah however, was uninhibited and continued her Afzal bashing routine- Maa baap ki baddua lekar ayega toh yeh toh hoga! Uss Yasmeen ki bachi ko kaise ghussh ke daurey parrahey theh... Seeing Afzal and Yasmeen in close proximity hasn't gone down well with neither Farah nor Lubna for that matter. While Farah's extraordinary perspicacity is limited to the ears of her family, Lubna didn't bother formulating theories and opted to confront Afzal directly- Yeh har do teen mahiney baad tumhara dil kisi nayi larki pe kyun ajaata hai- star kya hai tumhara, Leo? She was satisfied hearing he has no romantic inclinations towards Yasmeen although Farah remained the eternal skeptic. Having a renewed lease on life- abb mein woh baazi nahin khelon ga jissey jeetney ke liye dil harna parta hai, Afzal has revenge on his mind. He's rounding up his men from H'town and has a simple ideology- Larein gay ya marein gay... Yasmeen doesn't seem convinced though- she feels he's an escapist and that's why he's laying low.

Molvi Sahab's relief after knowing Afzal's whereabouts is paramount. I cannot say it enough- I love, love, love Molvi Sahab and his missus. They are one of the most adorable couples to grace our screens in recent times and they restore my faith in humanity. Their conversations are genuine and profound yet extremely delightful. Not once does he wince let alone scoff at his wife. And Bibi Ruqaiyyah never misses an opportunity to engage in a memorable conversation- Islam mein daawey jaizz nahin hain; chup chaap gari mein behtoh aur Karachi pohanchnay tak dua mangtey raho kay who wapas aney par raazi hojaye warna Karachi durr hi kitna hai- akar hum maa betey se miljaya karna... Betey ke zidd attachii se ziada bhari hoti hai, Molvi Sahab...

Now that I've had my Tuesday fix, I can get back to my routine. What did you think of today's episode? Are you eager to see Afzal and Wali battle it out? How do you think Yasmeen will react when she finds out Afzal doesn't reciprocate her feelings? Will Lubna take Farah down WWF style?

My most favorite episode and reviews

Aaj ki raat khairiyat se katt gayi toh subha koi achi khabar milegi... But that was not meant to be! With revenge on his mind, Afzal went ahead and settled the score- an eye for an eye, and with that one night, his life changed forever. It's funny how we never realize the value of our relationships until they're gone. Although Afzal had befriended Babu Hameed fairly recently, he loved him like a brother and struggled with his loss. Pain is often an excuse we use to justify our actions- Lahore walon ko taana diya tha tumnay, toh ab bata, Hyderabad waley hijreh hotay hein kya? And with that Afzal was able to convince himself to do the deed.

As much as we try to deny it, power corrupts us easily- Afzal's motives weren't singular; he tried to negotiate a deal with Najju Bhai. Najju Bhai, who, you ask? Well, Najju Bhai happens to be the bigger bhai about town- or to put it simply, Wali's boss. Since we have yet another new character, I don't see this winding up any time soon...

With all this drama in the forefront, let's not forget the back-end. Woh toh gaya, abb samjho hum bhi gaye! With Molvi Sahib finding out that Afzal went after Wali, his world collapsed. Sometimes we try too hard to believe that there is good in our children that we forget that all the horrors of the world are brought upon us by fellow men. We are quite capable of becoming monsters ourselves or giving birth to them for that matter. When the realization dawns upon Molvi Sahab that Afzal is a lost cause, he cannot bring himself to his imaamat- jaldi retire kar diya hai mujhe! Namaaz aur waqt dono haath se nikal rahein hein...

Never in his wildest dreams did Molvi SubhanAllah imagine that his son would let him down this way. Yes, he gambled, occasionally smoked, wasn't exactly the proverbial good son but Molvi Sahab held on to his faith that his son would one day live up to his name. Ruqayyah Bibi was inconsolable- chala bhi jaye toh khushboo chorr jata hai apni! Try as we may, we inadvertently end up expecting a lot of our children and when they fail to deliver, NOTHING can ease the pain of disappointment.

After a time lapse, a month I'm assuming, Afzal has settled in with his friends in Karachi- I'm sure we have Najju Bhai to thank for that. Yasmeen waits in anticipation for Afzal's return- woh jab tak Bhai hai shaadi nahin hosakti... And remember Samina? She's being stalked by her ex Saajid again. After today's episode, I have just these words left to say- Happily Never After... Rulaa hi diya kambaqt ne... *wiping away tear*
