They say that a good hero looks even better when he has better villain to fight against. Zindagi gave us brilliant performances when it came to actors of all kinds.
So here's me listing down my pick of favourite villains in Zindagi Shows. Note that I have discussed out-and-out baddies here and not grey shaded ones.
1. Adnan Siddiqui: Who can forget his fabulous act as the pervert Bakhtyar in Mere Qatil Meray Dildar. His schemes against the lead character made us scorn day and night. Though his roles in Maat and Ijazat (Ishq Junoon Deeewangi) had grey shades, Bakhtyar made a lasting impact on us.
2. Samina Peerzada: More popular for playing positive elderly roles, she totally nailed it when it came to play a scheming mother in Kaisi Ye Qayamat (Meri Zaat Zarra-e-Benishaan) as well as the dangerous sidekick in Noorpur Ki Rani. Too hard to believe she was the the one who played the impactful and patient Durr-E-Shahwar
3. Saba Qamar: Her character in Maat proved the old proverb yet again that the most dangerous enemy of a woman is a woman herself. She convincingly portrayed a greedy, manipulative and self-obsessed Saman with so much ease that our minds were left confused and bewildered with awe and hatred
4. Atiqa Odho: She needs no introduction here. We have all hated Farida Hussain from Humsafar with equal intensity. She defined the term antagonist! No wonder Humsafar brought back extreme liking for Pakistani television industry
5. Mehreen Raheel: While Zindagi Gulzar Hai claimed of being a total no-negativity show, Mehreen as the irritating, arrogant and ever complaining Asmara made her presence felt quite convincingly. Though not her best performance, she deserved a mention as Asmara in this list. Also her portrayal of Aleen in Mastana Mahi was a natural and believable transition to grey, yet we could definitely sympathize with her stupidities.
6. Hamza Ali Abbasi: His performance as Salaar is definitely unforgettable in Bezubaan (Mere Dard Ko Jo Zubaan Miley). The schemer disguised as Mr. Perfect made us hate him quite a lot. Though this was not his best performance, we loved his convincing portrayal and it left us asking for more.
7. Naveen Waqar: Her crazy love for Asher and her crazy hatred for Khirad. That summed up to more craze than our TV screens could handle. We found her irritating enough to want to break our TVs, which proved how power packed was she in playing the devilish Sara in Humsafar.
8. Shagufta Ejaz: She excelled at the character of Durdana Phupho in Mere Qatil Mere Dildar and was totally complementing the character of Adnan in the show. Her nuances and mannerisms added to the convincing impact her character gave and she looked totally IN-TO the character, making us believe she was actually like that in real life.
9. Sanam Saeed: Ofcourse last, but not the least. We loved her as Kashaf, we loved her as Shazia and we are loving her as a scheming Minah as well. Her performance in Ranjish (Kadoorat) where the antagonist is the focal point of the story gave a new direction to conventional expectations where the protagonist is always expected to be a goody-two-shoes. She is playing baddie with no hassles. And we are not complaining either.
Deserving a special mention are Shazia Afghan in Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Javeria Abbasi in Kaash Main Teri Beti Naa Hoti, Sajal Ali for Mere Qatil Mere Dildar, Amina Shaikh for Aaina Dulhan Ka (Mirat-Ul-Uroos), Faisal Qureshi for Tere Ishq Mein (Man-o-Salwa), Urwa Hocane for Kahi Unkahi and Sarwat Gilani for Dil-e-Naadaan (Dil-e-Muztar) who gave equally decent performances as baddies.
Please do pour in your suggestions since I have not watched all shows on Zindagi and may have missed a good performance or two.
EDIT: Quite a few suggested that I should have added Nauman Ejaz for Aaj Rang Hai (Ullu Baraye Farokht Nahi).
My Bad that I couldn't watch it when it was on air, but am sure he must have done a fantastic job.
Another one of the male antagonists who made his place on the female dominated television screens.
