Dear ladies,

Since I am seldom around, I shall reintroduce myself. I am Kankshita and lately, I have been watching Mera Naseeb. Sanam Saeed has an ardent admirer in me and hence, I had decided the day the promo aired that I'd be watching.

The narrative is both fast and detailed which is one of the many beautiful things about Pakistani dramas. We're five episodes down and the performances are captivating. I haven't seen any show with Phuphi Ammi and Sajda in it before, but Samina Peerzada, I have seen before. It's most fascinating and awe-inspiring to see her portray such a variety of roles, she's so awesome as the very unlikable and shallow Salima that it's spooky. 😳

Syra Yousuf has had little to express but Nazia's innocence. Saeed is very, very much of a treat to watch as the spirited Shazia who is both gullible and then, not so gullible. The characters are all realistic, including Moheb, his parents, Fahad and his mother. Adeel Hussain is very natural as Shabaaz and I like the actress who plays his sister as well.

Mera Naseeb is like a slap across the face of a modern person like me. The girls were punished more brutally for meeting a male person than I would be by my parents should I be caught doing drugs and having unprotected intercourse simultaneously. 😳 From across the table, under the comfort and protection of their burkas, what were they even doing? I mean, it was almost like, Salima really would have killed Nazia. Sajda really did say she didn't care that, after doing this, Shazia auctions herself in the market. It disturbed me most greatly to see that.

Furthermore, I did not understand how Shabaaz and Fahad and Moheb all fell for Nazia's beauty. Okay, I did get it. But it is limited of them. It is limited of the girls' family to do what they are doing too. But I see that they have limited choices and no wish to break the trend. I condemn such practices and notions and I'm sorry that they are the real landscape of many Muslim and Hindu communities alike.

In summation, stuff I definitely like:

1) That Shazia doesn't care that she is not considered beautiful by literally, anyone 😎

2) The girls' concern for each other, despite everything and by everything, I mean everything; theirs is a very intimate and beautiful bond and I haven't seen others of its like in any Pakistani show I have watched thus far

3) Samina Peerzada's acting

4) Phuphi Ammi and how she silently understands the girls' plight and how pointless those customs are 😳

5) The conversation between Shazia and Moheb, however much the latter screwed up his character ultimately later in the episode 🤔

6) Nazia and Shabaaz's love-at-first-installment-of-the-principal-amount-of-300-bucks; I made peace with its lack of substance because how can you blame a sincere man like Shabaaz if the whole of his country is trying to make sure that he has absolutely no love life, whatsoever? 😆

PS I am enjoying the show, despite my issue with the exceedingly orthodox stuff associated with it. Also, I'm rather curious to know what Phuphi Ammi tells Nazia tomorrow. And only the thought of watching it in HD is keeping me from YouTube right now. 🐷

PPS The title track is beautiful, dudes.

Sincerely,
Epiphany.

Nicely analyzed and though haven't seen tonight's episode, but I more or less know how the story goes and am just glad that Shazia's character remains consistent throughout.

As I stated elsewhere Shazia is spunky, bold and speaks her mind and what she says makes sense and also she has the best dialogues which have subtle humor and/ or sarcasm and even if Sanam Saeed wouldn't have been playing her I would have loved the character, though of course it's Sanam, through her performance, bringing out the essence os Shazia so well.

As far as Syra goes, she's perfect as Nazia and it's good I suppose that she doesn't have, till now at least, any challenging scene to perform.

Samina Peerzada is amazing and her character Salima is such a contrast to Rafia of ZGH, tht u can't help but admire how convincingly she's playing her character and the cherry on the cake is that there has been some riveting scenes between her and Sanam and again one can't help but watch these 2 performers, having such contrasting interactions from the heart warming and heart wrenching interactions as mother-daughter duo in ZGH and performing them so well too.

Story is regressive, but it moves at such a fast pace and they haven't shown something too outrageous to make it unbelievable totally, though of course the reaction to the girls simply meeting the boy was OTT, but such lapses I am overlooking. I am interested in watching how the relationship moves forward between Shazia-Nazia and their respective spouses and also between Shazia and Nazia themselves. And yes the Shazia-Nazia bonding is something refreshing and sweet.😊

Thank you. Yes, I think the consistency in their characters is just another reason I am hooked, Shazia is my favorite until now and I like how she stands up for what she believes in.

Elsewhere? There's an elsewhere? Only two people have read this post in three hours and you say there's an elsewhere too where the show is being discussed? 😳 I kinda agree, Saeed is the reason I started watching in the first place but Shazia is any way, the kind of character I'd like under any circumstance.

As far as Syra goes, she's perfect as Nazia and it's good I suppose that she doesn't have, till now at least, any challenging scene to perform.

So, do you mean, you think she won't be able to pull of a challenging scene? I'm not sure.

Exactly. As I stated, the transformation is spooky. Shazia may resemble Kashaf in some aspects but Rafia and Salima, oh, man. These people are extremely versatile, all of em.

Story is regressive, but it moves at such a fast pace and they haven't shown something too outrageous to make it unbelievable totally, though of course the reaction to the girls simply meeting the boy was OTT, but such lapses I am overlooking. Such lapses may be overlooked but they disgust you and that's pretty much the point. 😳 The reaction was over the top, sure but it also proved Shazia right. The family's integrity is altogether a very hollow, artificial institution and that the girls are nothing at the end of the day but weight that they're so anxious to lift off their shoulders.

It's regressive I agree but it's really gripping. I watched the whole series in two nights straight. 😛
And frankly it is true of really conservative communities. It's not so much about meeting a boy as it is about being seen with one in public. Hushed whispers become blatant character assassinations.
I would say it's the typical mentality in many Indian villages.

So regressive though it may be, but it's realistic. And anyway all the women do condemn such contradictory attitudes towards men and women in private. Phuphi amee, Salima and Sajida all of them at various points in time did discuss this sexism. I like that about this show.

Still it's better than many Indian soaps. One TRP blockbuster would likewise advocate similar sexist views under the garb of sanskars.

Samina Peer zada is a verstile actress no doubt her character Saleema is totaly different from her previous ZGH rafia along with Samina ji many other veteran actress are in this serial Robina Ashraf playing shazia mom though till now she didn't comeup with a WOW kind of performence & Bushra Ansari playing fahad mother role is another big name in Pak industry

Sanam ,Adeel are treat to watch so far Syra innocence & naive expressions cover up her imature acting but in some scenes she falls flate i like Moiz entry in tonight episode heard lot about shazia & moiz pairing & there scenes so looking forward to watch them & then comment

Even i was in the state of shock watching all the abuse going on those poor girls but its a sad bitter fact such conservative ,orthodox , paranoid families do exist & we often hear about the brutal act honour killing i've read many stories where girls are stone to death because she was found talking to another men even girls are buried alive in this modern era becasue they want to marry an outsider or had a affair out side the family 💔
well coming back to the serial Mera Naseeb i too found some scenes OTT in the starting specialy the mothers reaction on resturant meeting but i realized they are showing a conservative family story who is still strickly following there values ..
i've been told by a friend who already watched this serial she said this family had a dark past & hiding it & in the over reaction case we can say they are afaraid that history is or can repeat it self ... so i can say in Mera Naseeb they are showing the orthodox & conservative believes in a balance manner

Furthermore, I did not understand how Shabaaz and Fahad and Moheb all fell for Nazia's beauty. Okay, I did get it. But it is limited of them. It is limited of the girls' family to do what they are doing too. But I see that they have limited choices and no wish to break the trend. I condemn such practices and notions and I'm sorry that they are the real landscape of many Muslim and Hindu communities alike.

thats a good point i'm surprised too a guy like moiz fallen for shazia in first meeting but his behaviour later with nazia looked suspicious

In summation, stuff I definitely like:

1) That Shazia doesn't care that she is not considered beautiful by literally, anyone 😎
me too loved that thing no rona dhona for skin colour 👏😆

2) The girls' concern for each other, despite everything and by everything, I mean everything; theirs is a very intimate and beautiful bond and I haven't seen others of its like in any Pakistani show I have watched thus far
i'm loving shazia nazia bonding .. i can relate to it i too had a cousin friend we are had our school, college together we are same age only one month difference

3) Samina Peerzada's acting
brilliant her scenes with sanam the confrontation of saleema & shazia i love them 👏 & i want to mention its Sanam Saeed first show as lead actress & she gives brilliant performence infront such senior & veteran actors Sanam did a fabulous job too 👏

4) Phuphi Ammi and how she silently understands the girls' plight and how pointless those customs are 😳
she annoys me sometime 😆 but yes i can say she's the only one who understand those poor souls shazia nazia little bit

5) The conversation between Shazia and Moheb, however much the latter screwed up his character ultimately later in the episode 🤔
i loved that libraray scene i too get angry watching him eyeing nazia but i think & i read too moib character have grey shades

sheebaz poor fellow he's madly in love with nazia & reach at wrong place wrong time resturant 😆 then bringing proposal to home 😆
conveincing three future sasu mothers 😆

PS I am enjoying the show, despite my issue with the exceedingly orthodox stuff associated with it. Also, I'm rather curious to know what Phuphi Ammi tells Nazia tomorrow. And only the thought of watching it in HD is keeping me from YouTube right now.
i'm too waiting the pandora box to open & the dark past of this family to reveal i'm hooked with this show

PPS The title track is beautiful, dudes.
the OST is beautiful & i loved it more when i heard it tonight in shazia moiz libraray scene

Yes, I feel hooked too. But I mentioned the luring of high definition, didn't I? 😛

And frankly it is true of really conservative communities. It's not so much about meeting a boy as it is about being seen with one in public. Hushed whispers become blatant character assassinations.
I would say it's the typical mentality in many Indian villages.

I never said it's particular to Pakistan. It is prevalent both there and in India. We'd be surprised but such people live in urban areas as well, are educated and aware. And they choose to poison their daughters because they were seen by a bunch of strangers at a restaurant with a dude.

So regressive though it may be, but it's realistic. And anyway all the women do condemn such contradictory attitudes towards men and women in private. Phuphi amee, Salima and Sajida all of them at various points in time did discuss this sexism. I like that about this show.

All the women condemn it, but what do they do break free of it? I understand that we cannot change other people. But if worse comes to worst, what can they do where we marry our daughters and if we dun marry them at all? If Salima decided not to care about what Fatema said about her daughter, what could Fatema have done apart from defaming her daughter in the community? What if she just didn't care?

Still it's better than many Indian soaps. One TRP blockbuster would likewise advocate similar sexist views under the garb of sanskars.

Oh, come on. The garb of sanskaars was burned down by all of us who decided to watch foreign shows. Pakistani shows are like any other shows to me. The point is, they are not from my country and that instantly makes me want to give them a try. 🐷

She is no Kashaf indeed.

I see, my Mum was telling me about Bushra Ansari.

Sanam ,Adeel are treat to watch so far Syra innocence & naive expressions cover up her imature acting but in some scenes she falls flate i like Moiz entry in tonight episode heard lot about shazia & moiz pairing & there scenes so looking forward to watch them & then comment

Her acting is a bit bland. And her natural pout makes her look like she couldn't care less even when say, she's being asked to run away with her lover. 🤔

It's very, very disturbing, what people do with girls and what they think of them. The fundamental problem with how girls are treated is the older women who help the older men do that. A woman is a woman's most dangerous enemy, if you know what I mean. 😳

I obviously don't agree with the kind of repression that the girls are being subjected to, but I just wanted to point out that this story is set in that kind of environment and tries to highlight their plight.
And anyway, I can deal with this much backwardness on the telly if the show is as interesting, well-directed and gripping as this one is.
I don't condone what's being shown. 😛
