It basically means how life (zindagi) itself wasn't awful (khaak is metaphorically used here for a waste/awful etc) it was just spent awfully. What could I have said to you about all of that, as that passed by as I met you.

The sad song is Kashaf's point of view on life. The lines above make more and more sense as the show progresses and Zaroon comes into her life. The second line, tujh se kya kehte etc, in my opinion is Kashaf talking to Zaroon. ..all of that will be more clear as the show progresses. :-)

The male version of the song that plays in the background for Zaroon is Zaroon's point of view on life...which is opposite to that of Kashaf's. The makers deliberately made two songs for Zaroon and Kashaf which revolves around their individual characters.

I don't think there's a complete English translation anywhere for this song...but I tried my best to translate the song myself.

I love this song and I've heard it countless number of times so I think I've got it down right.😆 it may be a lame attempt and definitely not as beautiful as the Urdu verses, but that's the best I could come up with. Hopefully it helps in better understanding the song and Kashaf's point of view on life.

No problem! hopefully now it has become more clear. The song's beautiful..I felt I had to translate it because it's so meaningful and goes perfectly with Kashaf's rants on life.
