Part 3

Monami didn’t want to face anyone but she was damn hungry. She thought of quickly going to the mess and bringing her food back to her room. Surely Dilbaghji would pack some food for her. She quickly went to the mess hoping that nobody would be there, but unfortunately for her, everyone was there. She turned to leave but someone held her hand.

“Monu chal mere saath..” It was Sid. He dragged her to the middle of the mess. Monami kept struggling but he wouldn’t let her hand go. “Guys can I please have your attention? Mujhe kuch important baat kehni hai.” Sid announced, getting everyone’s attention. “Maine kal jhooth bola tha. Maine yeh sagai isiliye nahi todi ki main marne wala hu. Woh toh main Monu ka dil nahi todna chahta tha sach bolke. Par sach toh yeh hai ki mujhe kisi aur se pyaar ho chuka hai. Aap logo ko jitni gaaliyan deni hai mujhe dijiye. Monu ko nahi. Uski koi galti nahi hai.”

“Matlab #cheater tum ho?” Chitra asked, shocked.

“Haa.” Sid said.

“Nahi.” Monami protested. She didn’t want Sid to go through the same thing as her. She didn’t even understand why he decided to speak out the truth now. “Sid ko cheat karna hota toh bina mujhe bataye cheat karta. He broke off our engagement. Matlab uska pyaar genuine hai. Sid, tu mera best friend hai and I hope tujhe duniya ki saari khushi mile. Main bohot khush hu, tujhe tera pyaar mil gaya Sid.”

“Thanks bro. And I know tujhe bhi tera pyaar mil jayega.” Sid winked.

All the other recruits were looking confused as to what was happening. Monami knew there was another story behind Sid’s wink. She was about to ask him but she saw Karan walking in right at the moment. Gasping loudly, she turned around. She didn’t want to face him.

“Sid, please mere liye thoda khana pack karke room mein leke aa!” She whispered into his ears.

“Of course Monu, khana is more important than embarrassment. Tu kamre mein ja, main abhi aata hu.”

Monami ran from other door and straight went to her room. She didn’t know how she would face him after their kiss. It was Karan Shergill! Khadoos Shergill! Her trainer who could throw her out of Parakram. It wasn’t fair. He was the one who kissed her. But she didn’t push him away. Did that count as an offence in Karan’s dictionary? She kept pacing around her room thinking what to do.

Why did he kiss her? Did he like her? Or was it just a caught up in the moment kind of kiss? She came to Parakram to train and become an army doctor. Why did Khadoos Shergill and his lips have to get in between her dream? That was her first kiss! She had a different image in her mind on how it should have been. He stole her first kiss and she was the one getting worried. If anything, she should be mad at him.

“Room service.” Sid knocked on her door.

Monami took the plate from him and started eating. She was both hungry and stress eating.

“Aaram se khaa. Raakshash jaise khaa rahi hai tu.” Sid said.

“Shut up Sid!” Monami said. “Pehle tu bata, aaj tune story kyu change ki?”

“Woh log tujhe blame karenge aur main tujhe blame lene du? Mujhe jo kehna hai keh le, I don’t care. Par tujhe koi kuch nahi keh sakta.”

“Aww Sid…” Monami hugged him. “Par tujhe kaise pata sab mujhe blame kar rahe the?”

“Maine teri aur dole shole ki baatein sun li thi.” Sid said. Monami gasped. Did that mean he also saw that they kissed? “Dole Shole ko kiss karna nahi aata na? He needs lessons. Tu sikha dena.”

“Sid tu-“ Monami forgot about her food. She tried to grab him, but he ran. So she ran behind him. She kept chasing him for five minutes. At last, Sid’s breath gave out and he lay on her bed. Monami took her pillow and hit him on the face with it. She kept hitting him.

“Okay wait. Time out!!” Sid managed to stop her. “Pehle bata tujhe gussa kispe aa raha hai? Mujhpe? Khud pe? Ya phir uss dole shole pe?”

“Tujhpe! Tu khade khade hume kiss karte dekh raha tha. That’s so creepy!”

“Mujhe kya pata tha tum dono kiss karoge. I was about to leave dekhke but tab tak tum dono ki kiss khatam ho gayi.” Sid said. “Actually bro mujhe tujhpe gussa hone chahiye. Tune mujhse jhooth bola ki tum dono ke beech kuch nahi chal raha.”

“Kuch nahi hai humare beech!” Monami said.

“Jinke beech kuch nahi hota woh kiss nahi karte!” Sid said. “Ab bata yeh kiss ka kya majra hai?”

“Kuch samajh nahi aa raha. Main sad thi and hum baat kar rahe the. Suddenly usne hug kiya phir kiss kiya. Sid tu bata iska kya matlab hai? He says he doesn’t like me, par phir bhi kiss kiya! Main sad thi isiliye kiss kiya kya? I don’t understand! Soch soch ke migraine ho gaya hai. Sid tu bata na. Tu toh ladka hai! Uske mann mein kya chal raha hai?”

Sid thought for a while. “Pehle tu bata usne zabardasti kiss kiya tujhe? Mujhe kya use do chaar punches maarne ki zaroorat hai?”

Monami laughed at the image of Sid hitting Karan. Karan would knock him out in one punch. Poor Sid! But it was sweet that he cared for her.

“Monu bro, has mat. Gussa aa gaya toh main use maar bhi sakta hu. Dole shole hue toh kya? Sid G tere liye uski chutti kar dega.”

“Koi zaroorat nahi. Aur usne zabardasti nahi ki… I was sad and he was trying to comfort me I guess.”

“Toh tujhe kiss achha laga?”

Monami blushed. Now that she thought about it… “Pata nahi. Bura bhi nahi tha. I don’t know.”

“Not bad Monu! Dole Shole! Thoda sa boring aur sadu hai but thik hai. Tere liye use seh lunga.” Sid smiled. “Monu bro, tu mere saamne kitni baar royi hai. Have I ever kissed you? No na… Kiss aivayyi nahi karta koi. This means he likes you.”

Monami gasped. She sat down on her bed in shock. Khadoos Shergill liked her? Why couldn’t she stop blushing?

“Should I go talk to him about this?” She asked Sid.

Suddenly there was a loud bang and Monami and Sid saw Sanjana enter. She was looking really mad. Straightaway she came to Sid and punched him hard. Sid fell down on the impact. Monami couldn’t respond because of the suddenness of the move.

“Teri himmat kaise hui Monami ko dhokha dene ki?” Sanjana screamed. “Mujhe toh pehle hi pata tha tu ek number ka chirkoot hai. Tujhe toh-“ She picked him up and twisted his hand. “Saat janmo mein tujhe aisi ladki na milegi aur tune isko chodke kisi aur ka haath pakad liyo? Tum jaiso ko toh ped pe ulta latka ke maarna chahiye.”

Sid groaned in pain as she kicked him in the shins and made him kneel down. “Monu bro, help!”

This broke Monami out of her trance. She was so happy to see Sanjana defending her honor that she got too emotional. She hugged Sanju.

“Thank you Sanju. But iski koi galti nahi hai. Pyaar toh kisi se bhi ho sakta hai aur ise bhi ho gaya kisi se. Isme iski galti nahi. Chod do isko.”

“Commitment deke dhokha diyo hai hai isne.” Sanjana said. “Aise kaise kal tujhse pyaar tha aur aaj kisi aur se?”

Sid looked at Monami in horror. He didn’t want Sanjana to think that he was a cheater.

“Aisa nahi hai. Humara waisa rishta nahi tha. We’re best friends. Usse zyada kuch nahi tha kabhi. Woh toh uske dad ko main pasand hu and we thought since hum best friend hai toh kar lete hai engagement. Par agar ise kisi aur se pyaar hua toh I’m happy. Unn dono ke liye.”

“Ajeeb ho tum.” Sanjana final left Sid. “Toh tere dil mein iske like kabhi po po ka horn nahi baja?” Sanjana asked.

“Nahi.”

“Iske dil mein kisi aur ke liye horn baj raha hai.” Sid said, but he got a glare from Sanjana so he ran away from there room.

“Par chirkoot ne aage koi bhi kaand kiyo toh mujhe batana. Main maar maar ke seedha kar dungi.”

Monami hugged her again. It was like having an older sister looking out for you.
