Hmm... this means the judges were way out of line yesterday. The scoring was completely wrong too.

Not to forget the choreographers- how could HV do it? They are so experienced. I guess they tried to experiment a lot with contemporary to do justice to the 26/11 attack theme, so the contemporary thing somewhat took a back spot.

The performance was nice however. For a layman like me, I preferred it more than Sanjeeda's.

The point remains however that the dances didn't fulfill the requirement of the round. Arshad shud have blasted the choreographers.

I completely agree, since this season started i have been loving the dance coz the choreography is better than last year. BUT wht just happened wth contemporary yesterday?? Specially Sanjeeda's tht was more of a hip hop.

And yea, I do agree with your point, nikitagmc, They wanted to make justice for that 26/11 theme and it got deviated from the actual thing what was needed!

The choreographers are well known and very talented. I've seen their other performances as well ....... And it cannot be a coincidence that both the teams failed to perform contemporary. EIther it was scripted or there might be some misunderstanding.

I cannot accept that HV would not know what Contemporary is. Whn there are so many Reality Shows going on where every 2nd performance is a Contemporary dance... even if they dint knew what Contemporary is (which can have 0 probability), they could have just copied it from any reality show.

And on the point that why Judges gave them marks, I guess.. they simply dint wanted to give them Zero and dishearten them .. a Zero sounds so bad.

My doubt: Whats the use of shouting at the TV set? Dont mind, but the expression of your post was weird. It looks like you got hyper, your dad started shouting at the TV set... just on a measly issue like this... 😕 Just my POV. It looked like this to me. You can continue doing it, as its your views and opinions.

There seemed to be some confusion from all sides regarding what was contemporary and what wasn't. What Sushant said in defense of his performance (on FB) was that they were asked to do contemporary, not in the style of Terrence or Shiamak, but rather as an extension of an Indian or some other dance form. I guess confusion ensued and Sushant and Sanjeeda ended up in the middle of it all.

Personally, I think that newer dance forms such as contemporary leave more room for interpretation, often letting performances get lost in translation. Because it is such a flexible form, different people have different perspectives on what it is and what it isn't, and this recent episode was a clear case of that. The judges looked for something else and the choreographers saw it as something else; there isn't really a true master reference for contemporary dance, which seems to have caused many problems here. Hopefully the challenges will be clearer from here on out.

i cudnt agree more wid u!!👏 saturday's epi was a total disappointment, specially choreography-wise. Even i was like "where the hell is contemporary in this? :| )...ATLEAST there shud have been SOME contemporary...but in sanjeeda's act...0% contemporary, in sushant's act...2% contemporary. What were the choreographers thinking really? But sanju & sushi both danced very nicely though...but there was simply NO contemporary in either of their dances (choreographers fault)👎🏼

But look at the hypocrisy of the judges too. I mean i completely agreed with their comments but STRICTLY disagreed with their marks. Ok so 1st the judges dnt give sushant marks cuz there was little contemporary. But why on earth did sanju get EIGHT points for doing HIP-HOP?! (btw sanju is my fav massakali, i m not saying its her fault, watever she does, she does it with full grace)...she's fab dancer...but her marks shud've been low based on the far-way-from-theme choreography. Judges challenge round was really really weird this week & i didnt like it.

And plus another thing thts ticking me off is arshad. Ok so last week he CLEARLY said tht he wants a contemporary IN indian style! And sushant's dance was pretty much contemporary IN indian style, then y was he complaining bout seeing contemporary only? :S he forgot himself wat he said lol

Nice post TB!! I think you've really summed up the whole of the situation quite well. Its nice to learn more about different dance styles in this manner from all of you.
