Chapter 1
Maheshwari House
The Mansion was illuminating like a disco ball just like how Kuhu loved the place to be decked up every time they decided to have a party. But today was something special Mishti was going to get married to Abir after going through so many turmoils. She felt so happy for them – they were made for each other – a perfect textbook couple. She was shy, he was not. She was the storm;he was the calm after the storm.
He made her laugh, she made him smile when he wouldn’t want to cry. In short, this was the love story she always wanted to have. But this wasn’t supposed to happen, here she was alone – once again.
“Kuhu, Kahan Kho gayi hai?”
Varsha enquired concerned, Kuhu looked at her mother, the best thing to happen in her life who has never let her down. Held her by hands since the day she met her with so much love that Kuhu had spent nights wondering how she got so lucky. Kuhu would fight the world for this woman.
“Ma, mujhe kya hoga? I cannot #wait for the #mishbircelebration to begin.”
Kuhu embraced her mother smiling.
Rajvansh House
Abir was sparkling with happiness as he dressed up for the Sangeet Celebration. He was finally going to be with Mishti legally and formally with no form of hindrance. They had fought way too hard to be at this moment right now.
Kunal’s heart warmed seeing Abir look so happy and finally at peace. His brother deserved his share of happiness in life after being through so much. He was finally going to be with the girl he loved. Kunal was sure he would make amends with Mishti – to support his brother.
“Bhai, yeh lijiye aapka coat” Kunal placed the coat adjacent to Abir.
“Nanko, sab taiyaar ho gaye kya? Humein nikalna hai na, nahi toh hum late ho jayenge.”
“Haan Bhai, sab taiyaar hei, Dadu, Ketu aur sab aapka niche intezaar kar rahe hein.”
Kunal pulled out the small box out of his pocket and proceeded towards Abir.
“Bhai, idhar dekhiye. Mere pass aapke liye kuch hai.”
Kunal pinned the brooch on Abir’s kurta. It was a peacock shaped brooch – it was a nice blue pin with green and blue stones sparkling. Kuhu had left it with Kunal to give it to Abir as Mishti would be wearing a peacock pin on her hair.
Abir smiled as he saw the pin – this was definitely his Kuhu bro’s something for him. He looks at Kunal and spotted him wearing a #ladkewalepin on his kurta. Kuhu was truly a rainbow who had painted Kunal’s life. He would always be thankful to her and she had in the past few months filled this house with joy – freed it , allowed people to flow into becoming more of themselves.
“Kuhu” Kunal and Abir said it together.
“Haan Bhai, Kuhu ne aap ke liye diya hai yeh”
“Kuhu Bro is the best. Jaane mat dena Kunal kabhi Kuhu ko”Abir smiled as he wore the coat.
Kunal instantly thought about the papers lying in the file in his room. He would never let her go if it was within him, but here he was left with an impossible choice to make and he already knew his answer. His heart was sinking as he realized the impending result of his choice.
How was he going to explain all of this? With an impending wedding to happen, when finally everything was happening right – how was he going to make all of this right? Was this the only way ?
“Nanko, Kahaan kho gaya hei tu?”
“Bhai, chalo chalte hein, hum phir late ho jayenge. Mein dekhta hoon sab aa gaye ki nahi.”
Abir found Nanko a bit strange considering everything was finally settling down and everyone was happy again. Was Nanko not telling him something? Abir mentally chided himself to calm down and hold his horses. “There is nothing that Nanko has to hide from you. Finally things are happening right,Abir Rajvansh – it’s time for you to hold your horses and not stress people out.”
Maheshwari House
The Rajvansh family arrived at the Maheshwari House to a warm welcome from the Maheshwari Family. While Kuhu was waiting with Mishti giving her final touch ups. She wasn’t going to let Mishti look anything less than a perfect beauty than she was supposed to look. Mishti was her favourite frenemy mostly important only sister. She was the only one she was with since childhood. Ananya Di had been too old and they were put together to bond without any choice, but she wouldn’t change her for anybody in the world. But she wasn’t going to tell all this to Mishti too. Kuhu was nice but not #Mahaan in her own dictionary.
“Kuhu, bas kaafi hei.”
“Mishti Mahaan, ruk ek second, mujhe check toh karne de.”
Mishti sat there while Kuhu checked her outfit, jewelry and her overall look. She looked at Kuhu engrossed in ensuring Mishti looked her best today. Mishti and Kuhu always fought with each other, Mishti couldn’t help it. Kuhu was unreasonable and childish but she was also the see of light in the ray of darkness. Mishti wouldn’t trade Kuhu for any other person for a sister. They were not the quintessential sisters, but they were what they were – Honest. They would have each other’s back without any questions asked if the world was against them but they would fight over everything possible being from the side of the bed to the type of car the family wanted.
“Shit, Mishti tu aisi behti reh, mein abhi le aayi.”
“Kya lana hai?”
Mishti saw Kuhu bring a small box, she saw a beautiful peacock hair pin as she opened the box– it wasn’t too elaborate. Shiny but not sparkling metal with blue and green stones embedded on it.
“Nothing too elaborate, something customized for you and Abir bro. He is wearing a brooch on his kurta; you will wear this pin on your hair.Something just for MishBir.” Kuhu pulled the pin out of Mishti’s hand as she proceeded to pin it on her hair.
Mishti was touched but couldn’t find words to express her emotions. She felt so stupid as she found her eyes well up, has anyone ever cried seeing a hair pin, she would be the only one to feel so emotional about it.
Kuhu knew how much this meant to Mishti. Mishti was seldom with words but her eyes were enough for Kuhu to know how touched Mishti was with the gift.
“Time to go, Chalo”
Kuhu brought Mishti down the stairs as both the families were waiting for the bride to be. Mishti smiled looking at Abir who was resembling the joy she felt in her heart. This really was one of the best days in her life.
Kunal couldn’t help but break a little inside and smile at the same time as he watched Kuhu accompany Mishti. She was beautiful as always with her curls bouncing on her head as she nudged Mishti playfully while bringing her down the stairs.
Kunal couldn't help but think about all the moments he had with Kuhu, she had simply painted his life the moment she walked into his monochromatic world. Was he willing to let her go ?
Just when his thoughts were eating him from inside, he looked up to find Kuhu staring straight at him lovingly not allowing her smile to shrink even one bit. She was strong when it came to family.
