In ideal scenario a good writer will play it out like this.

Yuvraj fires the gun and Ruhi shouts and tries to stop, but Abhira without thinking twice takes the bullet for him.

That would show so many things. Abhira's selfless nature and true worry for Armaan. How she didn't think twice to sacrifice her life for him.

And how Ruhi's love for Ar isn't as strong as she claims it to be. She will first hand witness what true love looks like.

But going by their track record and obsession with this triangle, it could be Ruhi taking the bullet.

The only logical reason for Ruhi to be present at the site of the confrontation would be for her to witness first hand the trauma that either Armaan or Abhira would undergo if one of them were mortally wounded. This could serve as a rude wake up call to Ruhi to come out of this unhealthy and toxic fixation she’s developed via-a-vis Armaan. For all the residual feelings he may or may not have for her, and for all the guilt he probably feels, the fact is Armaan has moved on. There is a casual physical and intense emotional intimacy that he has developed with Abhira. Now unless we want to think of him as a two-timer who has feelings for both, we would have to assume that Armaan has moved on from Ruhi. I think this incident will prove this fact both to him and to Ruhi. For that to happen, Abhira would have to take the bullet logically. Armaan or Ruhi taking the bullet doesn’t serve any purpose really. The whole point of Abhira leaving the house was so she would not endanger the lives of Armaan and his family. So how would Armaan getting shot make any sense? What would it prove to anyone? While she may not have given a name to it, Abhira walking out of that house has already proven what Armaan and his family mean to her. Of course this is a logical analysis. ITV and logic don’t really go hand in hand. However, only Abhira getting hurt will help take the story forward. Assuming the creatives actually want to do that and not keeping going around in circles. I think they won’t have a choice. The fact that the TRP is stagnant is reflective of the state of the story itself. They will have to make a move, and make Armaan move as well in one direction or the other. Odd days even days won’t work much longer!
