This is Us (arguably the best tv show in recent times). Specifically, this scenario is reminiscent of season one where Randall learns Rebecca hid the truth about his adoption from him for 36 years. Randall was adopted by Jack and Rebecca Pearson when he was an infant. Throughout his childhood he tried to learn about his birth family but Rebecca always insisted she knew nothing. Hence, he was led to believe his biological parents wanted no relationship with him when the reality was far from it. Randall’s biological father, William, wanted to wait until he was sober and ready to meet Randall. When he was 36, Randall located William and learnt that Rebecca lied and hid William from him. Similarly, Abhi is learning a truth about his identity and adoption that his mother, the person he trusted most, kept from him.
Abhi’s bond with Manjari reminds me of Randall’s bond with Rebecca because both would go to any lengths to protect their mothers, even when they’re wrong. It never mattered what the situation was, losing/hurting Manjari and Rebecca was never an option.
Like Manjari, Rebecca made a decision that would change the course of her childrens lives without consulting with her husband, the father of these children. Jack never knew who Randall’s biological father was.
With these similarities in mind, I’d be disappointed if Akshara apologies for the truth coming out. I know Manjari is going to turn against her (she already made the switch from Akshu to Akshara, and itv mothers cannot be trusted - still furious with Narmada from Imlie) and might emotionally blackmail her but this situation is not Akshara’s fault at all and she better know it! Just like she knows Sirats death was an accident, despite Aarohi’s baseless accusations. In This Is Us, Randall’s wife, Beth, learnt the truth before Randall and she immediately confronted Rebecca and said, either you tell him the truth or I will because I refuse to keep secrets from my husband. And she kept true to her word, she granted a small period of time for Rebecca to share before taking matters into her own hand. I’d love to see a similar scene between Akshara and Manjari or a scene where she tells Abhi the truth (any big truth), because a big part of the mehendi fiasco was miscommunication and Abhi believing she lied to him so we can have a strong parallel here!
