Akshara's Column: Bridging the generation gap

Hi friends. Naksh has just completed nine months. Naitik and I are doing our best as parents, but sometimes Ma criticizes me for Naksh's upbringing.

Ma at times, gets over-protective about Naksh. I understand she loves him a lot, but as a mother even I know what's best for my kid. She keeps giving me tips about raising a child. Sometimes I get irritated but then she is a mother herself and knows what is good for a child. Let me share with you some tips that would help in bridging the generation gap between you and your parents.

Few days back, I have been to my parent's house. Even after ma permitted to go she was worried about Naksh. Finally, she called me back home. I felt bad and tried talking to her. It is important that you tell your parents your point of view as well. She understood me and I am sure that next time I want to go home, she won't call me or Naksh back soon. See communicating helps.

Sometimes parents tend to talk in an idealistic manner and at times go overboard. Ma is not an exception. I was surprised when she didn't allow Ananya to play with Naksh and criticized my mother for letting her play in sun. I listened to her and let it go. I tried understanding what she wanted to say, other than holding a grudge and it helped.
