Akshara's Column: Tips for fathers to take care of their baby when alone

Hi friends. It is not easy taking care of a baby, especially for a father. Recently Naitik found out how much effort is required to look after a baby when I had to go to Delhi to sign a contract for my book publishing.

I had to leave for Delhi to sign important contract papers regarding the publishing of my book. Unfortunately due to some delay, my trip got extended and I had to stay there overnight. I was quite worried as it was the first time that i would be staying away from my Duggu for the night. Naitik had to take care of Naksh.

It is very difficult taking care of a baby as they are entirely dependent on you for everything. We have to feed, bathe, play and even put them to bed. Fathers often don't realize how stressful it is as they are always away at office. Hence it often becomes difficult for them to take care of the baby when they are left alone with them. But here are some tips for fathers to take care of their children when faced with such a situation.

- Do not leave your baby unattended. It is important that your baby is always supervised.

- If your baby is not well, ensure that you follow the medicine routine properly. Don't forget to give them the medicines at the prescribed intervals.

- Let some other family members know that you would be home taking care of the baby alone. It would be preferable that you apply for leave of one or two extra days. Hence, you would be available home if there are emergencies.

- Don't be afraid to ask for help. As a father you are used to spending more time in office than home, hence there are chances that you are not accustomed to the whereabouts of your baby's stuff. You can always call your parents or your wife to help you.

- Make sure that you too get some rest when the baby is sleeping as your sleep is bound to be interrupted when they wake up.
