Akshara's Column: Miserable without Naitik

Hello friends, I have been miserable this week without Naitik. He has been busy in the past few months and I have been dealing with my pregnancy all alone.

I expected Naitik's support during this time; instead he has been wrapped up in work. At first, I thought it was a phase but over six months, he is always rushing from home to office or back and never has time to spare for me. Perhaps like me, he too is concerned about my increasing weight. I miss Naitik a lot.

Gayatri ma and Bhabhima are planning a celebration for my god-bharai, which is wonderful. Perhaps Gayatri ma noticed my misery and consoled me that she hardly got to see Bauji during her pregnancy, but her words didn't help allay my worries.

I thought I would wait for Naitik at dinner so that we could spend some time together but I was hurt to know he had eaten at office and later Naitik even refused to accompany me for a walk. I am hurt that Naitik doesn't even have time to talk to me. In fact, he is so busy that he does not receive my calls or reply to messages. When he forgot his mobile charger and lunch box at home, I surprised him with a visit at the office as an excuse to spend time with him but he had a meeting to attend. Later, he came home only to rush to Jaipur. I felt so left out that he didn't even tell me about his plans. And when I requested him, he even refused to take me along. What is happening? Why is Naitik being so aloof?

I was shocked to hear Naitik's friends' views about their pregnant wives. Naitik didn't utter a word in my support. Later, Naitik spoke to Gayatri ma but not to me and I found out he had to leave for Delhi post Jaipur. Eventually when he did call me, I was too angry to talk to him. I have not changed since pregnancy but Naitik surely has. Earlier despite his busy schedule, he would take time off for me but that isn't the case now.
